Fix up or sell, not sure what to do :(

Well it's time to face the facts I think, my celica is beginning to need more and more things done to it, and I'm in 2 minds about what to do:
Just replaced the radiator and thermostat, and am getting some coolant pouring out from what I think to be the water pump. Not only this, I have my suspicions the HG might be going, there's bubbles in the coolant now, plus there's other stuff needing attention like oil leaks, etc.
I'm trying to decide whether it's worth just tearing the engine out, and having it completely rebuilt with all seals/hoses etc. replaced, and just blow the $4-5k on that, and HOPEFULLY not have many more problems. The other option is to cut my losses, piss it off, get a few more grand on my loan and buy something else. The trouble with that is I like the uniqueness of my car, and would not be content with something 'common'. I probably could not afford any other car I really like.
Quite simply, I work full time now, and have very little time to work on the car myself now, but at the same time I don't want to be working full time just to keep it on the road!!

i was in a similar mindset about my rolla.. i've decided to bite the bullet and fix it all up and go for a 20v at the same time.
my reasoning was, "whats to say that the car you end up buying won't have the same problems down the track?" you may as well just fix what you've got. that way you know that it is to an exptent bulletproof and won't have to worry about fixing it again.
just my $0.02 but thats what i decided on and i've had a simlar dillema.

Mate,
Don't get rid of it. I love driving past your car parked in front of your gf's place. Everytime I go past, I gotta turn around to have a good look. You'll regret ever getting rid of it I reckon.

Thanks guys, it's been on my mind all last night and today, and I'm very much leaning towards fixing it now. It's getting the water pump done next week, so it's safe to drive for a while, then I think it's time after that to start getting some quotes for rebuilds etc. Or maybe just leave it for a while until something goes
Finney: Your point about another car possibly having its own problems is one of my main thoughts against selling it, it's very true as any car I could afford (and actually WANT to buy) in my price range, will be of a similar age/class of car.
Yian: Thanks mate, it's those kinds of comments that make me definitely not want to sell the car, as vain as it is, I love getting comments from people who appreciate the rarity of it, or the others that go "OMG is that turbo? Siiiiick!".
Overall, I know I will regret selling it in the long run, even if it means me spending more money on it!

Yeah I was in a very whingey mood when I started having these thoughts so that accounts for most of it
Like I've said, I love the car and love what the Group A represents, and yeah I would hate some f*ckwit to buy it and destroy it or god forbid rice it up and cruise down chapel st. with it!
Thanks guys

And if you need a hand with anything - or a look at what can be done - your always welcome to pop over and have a look to see what pain + money well spent can create!

Thanks a lot Stu, I've been hanging to see your beast of a car for ages, hopefully I can make it to the next meet whenever it is!
I'd hate to cross over to the dark side and not be part of this place anymore too!!

Yeah I know that, if you read my first post i was just concerned about the ongoing cost of things, I reckon lots of stuff is starting to go. However I was writing that under stress and now I think it's kind of a blessing in disguise
Stu: Haha I had some improper thoughts about Integra Type R's but then I thought of the implications of driving something like that. I'd never hear the end of it...Plus I don't want a nissan like every other man and his dog!

bite the bullet then
if its broken/going to break soon then its a good oportunty to make it stronger.
i think i read that you were contemplating selling it.. selling it with problems means you wont get as much money for it either way its going to cost you i know what id be doing

not sure if its the same thing but im also having trouble deciding whether to work up my 162 or give it up to go for the sw20. its a hard decision isnt it.
on the one hand i got a car which can potentially be nice.
on the other hand i got a car that will dominate, garunteed to be REALLY nice. except it costs about an extra 10k
