OK What is the difference in ecu's for autos and manuals.
I have an auto 1ggte and it has a separate ecu for the gbox.
It even says on the top of it. Auto Transmission ECU.
So if that is the ecu for the gbox then why would the main ecu be different?
If it is the same can i run a manual ecu instead or the auto one.
I realise tho that i probably would not be able to run a auto one with a manual gbox?
Most newer manual ECU's have different ignition timing.
Auto's decrease the amount of ignition timing when gearshifts are approaching, during and just after them to give the auto an easier life.
The auto g/b ecu interfaces to the engine ecu informing it when the gearbox is going to shift so it will decrease the timing. If it can't see the auto or auto ecu it will retard the timing constantly as if it is always in the middle of a gear shift.
OK now i am a little worried.
I just checked my wiring in the car and i cant find the auto trans ecu. Looks like the auto electrician didn't install it.
So that means my engine timing is constantly decreased????
Will this affect my engine if i continue to drive it like this????
I will have less power too right???
