4AGE inlet manifold adjustments Wed, 29 June 2005 10:06 Go to next message
due to recent thrashings at the track, i've been tinkering around with adjustments to make the engine idle smoother, and perform at optimum on boost, but i've recently found that there is something fishy about the idle screw/TPS.

When i adjust the screw (clockwise) it brings the idle down, and when it gets to near 900/1000rpm, the screw is maxed out and i can't turn it anymore - my question is, does this effect the throttle in any way?

I've adjusted the TPS all the way anticlockwise to accomodate this, but even so, it is still not enough to leave me some le-way.

Could these problems be the cause of my unusual turbo lag/high RPM response from turbo?

Is the throttle fully closed at idle?

You shouldn't need to adjust the TPS and idle screw like that to keep the idle under 1000rpm... Check for air leaks too. Is this MAP sensored?

throttle is fully closed, well as far as i can see, maybe i should take the inlet pipe off to see ?

I mean, it runs fine, i'm just curious if this is normal cuz it doesn't seem right that when i adjust it to operating idle speed, the screw only has like less than half a turn left to be fully closed ?

it's an AFM version, with a turbo.

i've played around with the AFM screw (yeah i know i shouldn't) but lately it seems to have little effect..

hmm, dont know about the high idle,

but when you say lotsa lag, what RPM are you hitting 'boost'??

my tacho doesn't work, but my guess it'd be around 5 grand that it actually has some juice, after that, it's shit off a shovel Laughing but i'm just annoyed that it doesn't have the early turbo response (sounds and feels NA if i'm driving normally and tamed)

a good example is when i'm at the engine giving it some revs from the throttle body and i don't get the turbo fludder until like 6 grand, where as my mates setup (only difference is that it has a microtech) is so bouncy and the turbo resonds on the slightest of throttle ?!
