12v to 240v converters

I was wondering if there would be any adverse affects to running one of those 12v to 240v converters in my car. The reason I ask is that I bought my laptop for tuning and datalogging and the POS will only work if it is plugged into the wall. So options are to buy another laptop or fit a voltage converter. What do you reckon?

Just get an inverter.
$60 at autopro will get you one powerful enough to power a laptop with ease. usually they have two powerpoints on them as well, so if you wanna do something else like... eh i dunno, plug a VCR in, you probably could.
Just dont go using a toaster in your car

Yeah I was just a bit worried about current draw.
It would be handy though as I don't have a stereo at all in my car so I can just play mp3's off the laptop on long drives

from jaycar there are two types.. the cheapy ones and the switchmode ones..
i got a cheapy 100W from jaycar and it works fine for the stinkpad (and soldering iron )
but if i was to get one again, i'd go for more wattage and i would get a switchmode one, just for the cleaner power it produces (and consequently less noise back into the system..)

Get a laptop power supply to run from 12V. You can get universal units from just about anywhere these days.

I'd be looking for a proper invertor that you can mount 24/7 in the car that will produce 240V...
They run quite easily, and don't draw too much really...
My Boss has one mounted 24/7 in his Mazda 121, works quite well...
Also provides for extra use if you need to plug something else in but don't have 240V available... (IE if you go camping etc)

@ camping in my corona! Wouldn't be the most comfortable trip!
I see where you are coming from though. I will see which one is cheaper and get that.
