fitting new springs Sun, 08 December 2002 00:06 Go to next message
hey guys ive managed to score some almost new lowered king springs for my AE86 for nothing. i was just wondering what is the corect way to remove the strut? ive only worked on front suspension once before. do you just remove the two bolts under the bottom of the hub and the3 in the engine bay? wen i took them out of the other sprinter (it was a wreck) thats all we did but there was a lot of pulling and pushing so i figured we were doing something wrong. anything else i should know?

is there a reason you want to remove the whole strut?
to change springs all you need to do is raise the car, get some spring compressors, compress the old spring and take it out, compress old spring and put in.
If the new springs are low enough they will probably just sit in without being compressed

you need to disconnect break line or cut slit in the part it holds and pull it out, remove top 3 bolts, remove bottom 2 bolts then the fun part was getting the strut out of that bottom part. You can use a bar and place it between things to use as a lever and push down on the lower arm.
