URGENT: throttle setup for 18r-geu RA23 Sun, 08 December 2002 11:33 Go to next message
As some of you will know I'm converting the 18r-g to EFI and i'm now at the stage of putting everything back in. Should get the head back tommorow. I've hit a small snag, I need to know how you guys have hooked up the "go" pedal? Norbie, crosstek anyone else? I thought I heard on the list one day something about using an 85 celica setup? Or maybe I could make up a motorbike cable to the right lenght then make brackets and stuff around with it til it's right. I need to know really soon cause I want to have it all together tommorow, tuesday at the latest. I really need my car, i've been driving my sisters 84 laser around.

Thanks fellas (and any chicks).

Just dug through my email archives and found this (written by a friend from the CCCQ):
Quote:

On the Throttle cable. I use a cable with the part Number 'BA 248" supplied by
Flexible Drive Agencies
86 Stubbs Street,
Kensington, Vic. 3031

I bought it fron Thompsons Spare Parts at Capalaba. but you should be able to get it through any Spare Parts shop. eg. REPCO, etc. Costs between $60 and $75 + GST

The pedal lever has to be modified to fit the cable. I will show you how to do it or will modify one it you can supply one to be modified. Guarantee no sticky throttle problems ever again.

I did this in my RA23 and it works beautifully; the throttle is smooth and progressive and it all fits in like factory. The mod to the throttle pedal is a piece of piss, basically you heat up the metal rod at the top and twist it 90 degrees. I think it needs to be drilled out a little bit too.

anything cheaper Smile . Don't spose you could describe the cable to me, i'll make up one cheaper than that. Photos would be great but I think that's pushing it since I need it so soon. What sort of lenght approx is it and what type ends does it have and what have you done to hold the outer casing in place so the inner cord slides nice. That's about it I think.

Well if you're going to make your own cable, I don't understand the point of asking what everyone else is using...

no it's not that. I was wondering if anyone else HAD made there own, or if there was something cheap to use. Yours sounds good but I want to spend as little as possible so i'm going to price how much for the bits to make one. Making one was only an option if there is nothing around already, or if it cost too much. I do apreciate your help, may even use that if the parts are too expensive.

I'll save you. RA65 pedal and cable. Otherwise 22R-E Corona. The cable bolts onto the manfold, no probs there. It is a bit dodgy looking where it goes thru the firewall, but that can be fixed up later on. With the pedal and mounting. You need to use the plastic RA65 mounting base. You'll have to drill an extra hole in the base to make it bolt into your car. I chopped the big ball thing off my pedal (you'll know what I mean when you see the pedal).

You'll bolt the pedal in and realise it needs to be bent upwards to you've got enough travel on the throttle body. It's a bit of trial and error here, but nothing too difficult if you've got a vice. Should only take you an hour to sort it out.

had a trip to the wreckers and nothing there to help me out so i'm making my own now. I have made a cable so far from a bike brake cable and just have to make mounts. I've even got an idea to make em adjustable but i'll get to that l8r. Here is a pic. BTW the cable cost $3.62 and it uses the original peddal.http://www.orford.com.au/temp/cable.jpg 22kb
