WTB / HELP FINDING AW11 SPRINGS OR COIL OVERS Mon, 04 July 2005 13:19 Go to next message
HHHHHHHHEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLP

Where can i gat some coil overs or some decent springs for an AW11 ?

i Dont absolutely need coil overs just so long as i can get some springs with a decent spring rate and ride height.

Unless someone can correct me otherwise the standard rate springs for JDM supercharged AW11s are about 2.2 kg front and about 4.8 kg rear. what i am after is about 3.5 to 4 front and 8 to 9 kg rear. The car is going to be raced both circuit and targa etc so these are the rates i am aiming for. looking at a ride height around 40mm lower than standard.

Does anyone know of any suspension joints prefereably around sydney that can make / source these items or where they can be imported from.

Thanks,

Scott

scott,

kings should make the appropriate springs for your application.

your estimated rates are *so* close to what i estimated i will need for my aw11 setup!! (either we both got it right, or we ar both equally wrong!) Smile

look at http://www.kingsprings.com.au/Prosport/prosport_li near_rate.htm

springs under 175lb/in are customs, but they are available almost off the shelf!

Glad to see we are thinking along the same lines

I have seen this site before and they offer a good range of springs. However these are for coil over set ups.

What are you planning to do ? have you allready got coil overs or are you going to get some made up ?

We have to make sure that there is sufficient bump and rebound damping and adjustability of same.

Also many of the coil over set ups i have seen dont offer any camber adjustment like the standards struts do, which if you want asjustability you need adjustable camber tops

hi scott,

i will make up my own coilover setup, utilising my original strut casings so there is camber adjustment.

as for inserts - probably use tokico externally adjustable shocks

T,

Sounds good !

Do you want to make sum up for me while you are there ?? Very Happy

Have you made coil overs before ?

I think this sound like a good idea buti think we need some shorter stroke inderts to limit the droop of the suspension so the coils remain captured with such high rate springs.

Let me know what you think

Scott

scott,

i can make up 2 sets easily enough

yes. not too hard to do with the appropriate equipment!

shorter stroke shocks are always good to have with this sort of setup, but we may not need them (will have to play with a strut to know for sure) about the only company that can make shocks to selected length would be koni..

high rate springs? these are not high rate springs at all!!
500lb+ is getting high rate!

Sweet,

so you have done some before.

I allready have adjustable Konis in mine but i dont think the stroke is any shorter than standard, is is possible to shorten them ????

I know what you mean its not really a HIGH rate spring, like some of the sport sedand are running like 1500 pound. But we are talking about an AW11 and something that is still going to be used on the road.

The proposed rates are over double that of the factory.

Whats your number would like to give you a call, actualy i really hate typing Laughing

T,

At last i have got onto a local guy that has built up some coil overs similar to what we were talking about.

He is going to put together some prices to convert the existing struts to coil overs.

He has had a quick look at the car and intended purpose.

he has pointed out it wont be straight forward but can definitely be done.

He is going to have a closer look at the rates we were talking about but thinks they will certainly be pretty close.

He intends on modifying the adjustable konis i have as they are new, will have to shorten the stroke and increase the bump and rebound due to the higher rates we want to run.

He is going to do some measurements and see how much clearance there will be on coils as they will be way lower than stock.

He is also looking at the bumps stop and droop lengths to ensure it all works properly and with a good range of adjustability and rebuildability.

Will keep you informed as i get more info.

Scott

Hi boys.

I am about to build myself a set of coil overs for my AW11 as well.
However, I won't be using the AW11 stock struct to do so.

Probably looking at using AE92 or EP92's struct.
(As you boys might have notice, the AW11's struct are TOO wheepy).
If you boys are interested, come down to my workshop and we can further talk about building them !!.

I haven't done mine yet. But I am doing homework about them at the moment. I would like to get some comments from other people as well.
