clunky 3rd gear shift--C52 & C56

Hi,
I have just put an import C56 into my AE92 GTI. when shifting into 3rd it clunks and at low speed shifts it very occasionally grinds. My old C52 also did this so i am thinking that it is a shifter/linkage problem.
Can any help me with idears on how to fix it. i am running synthetic 75w 90 oil.

my C-52 does the same thing. and the guy I bought it off 4 months ago had recently had it rebuilt 
Id hate to know what it was like before it was rebuild, coz it s tempramental as fuck now. If you get it right it works a dream, but if your a fraction lazy it spits it back in your hand.
I reckon rebuilb too
