Twin Pipe design... Mon, 09 December 2002 01:32 Go to next message
Hey,

I havent even gotten around to taking the Y pipe off yet, so Im not sure if this is possible at all. In the desing onf the twin pipes, are you able to seperate the wastegate gases from the main dumppipe and then join them back on futhur down the system ?

Are you talking about having the exit from the wastegate entering the exhaust after the cat?
What car are we talking about?

Is this another 1J Twin pipe discussion here?

Yep...another 1JZ twinpipe thread.

Like I said, I havent had a close look on the CT12A yet, but on some turbo's it would be possible to design a dump pipe that would seperate the wastegate gas, from the Turbine outlet, and then merely have the wastegate gas re-introduced into the main exhaust before the converter.

This would result in less turbulence around the turbine outlet, and therefore possibly less heat/more power.

Just an thought...

I think it would be possible with a suitably shaped dump pipe with a chunk of steel in the middle to separate the flow. Here's a pic of a CT12B which should have similar overall dimensions to what you have:

it should be possible ... but thats 4 exhaust tubes to manouvere around each other in a confined space as it is .. it will be a mad design if you can pull it off, but if your only using the factory turbo's your boost ceiling is 13-14psi, so i dont think enough of a gain will be had from re routing wastegate gasses .. that is compared to the head phuck of trying to get it all to fit

but hey if you got the time give it a bash, would look awesome if you pulled it off

all IMHO

edit: i think the biggest challenge is getting the turbine outlets flowing smooth, and not the factory 90 degree bend

From memory, didn't the red Soarer in HPI have a 2JZ in it?? Im guessing it would probably be similar though

Someone is doing this right now in newcastle, results should be able to compare to my own twin pipe set up.

it is possible to take the y pipe off without removing the turbo's.

check out celicamad's web site for full instructions.

Count on it taking quite a few hours of knuckle pulping frustration though.
