Hmmm, I wonder which would make more power - the 2.2 litre engine or the 3.0 litre engine? Better have a think about that one.

Not sure if the Camry is a great basis for a performance car?
If you want to do the Camry, forget sleeper and go 'pimp' style. I reckon the Camry would be a great base for a fully pimped ride.
Slam that sucker and whack on some big chromies!

Fuck chromies Try and find some polished dish rims, if you do want to go that route, I don't think chrome wheels would suit a Camry at all.. but that's just me.
You could try and supercharge the V6 using the SC14 from a 1G-GZE I guess, this is just speculation, as I've never heard of it being done.

I'd go the 3.0 V6, as it would obviously make more power. TRD also make super charger kits for the V6, although they wouldn't come in cheap.
A few members of this forum have gone the SV21 with a 3S-GTE in it, would work nicely too.
Or if you wanted a different kinda sleeper a 1J or 2J in a Cressida wouldn't go astray either.
Just be warned, none of this is going to be cheap.

My current car (Magna) has proved that you can put a lot of power through the front wheels. I actually already have a SV21 too but it's stuffed. Obviously the 3.0 will make more power but I was talking in terms of which one's easier/cheaper to work with. I think a Vienta would make a great sleeper car because of its grandpa image, its reliability and reasonable stock power.

I have seen a absolutely blown camry f%$k me it was awesome, I think it had around 200 FWD KWs, you can prob find the article on it from HOT4's about 12 issues ago, it was the cover car (like a ford blue) looked more like a cefiro than a camry when he had finished with it tho I think he used the 6 from memory

I saw that issue, he used a 4. I'm not planning on spending 20k on it like that guy, but I do want to make a great handling, great performing, nice looking ride.

I would put something in that would put a BEAM(s) on my face
But if you want a V6 go the 1MZ and forget about all that cast iron crap that is a 3VZ.

Hey guys, yea I've been thinking about modding a wide body Samry as well. Trying to do it as cheap as possible so I was thinking a 3S-GTE with a Vienta manual gear box (E153?) cos from what I've been hearing a 1mz would be expensive to get power out of. But I was wondering if the lack of low down torque of a 3S in a heavy car like the Camry would make it a bit less fun to drive. Has anyone got any ideas on that? Also, that 1onl1 Camry from hot4's was running a 5s-fe with something like a Garrett GT25/28 turbo ... just a bit expensive I'd think...

the biggest thing about making a performing camry is it has to be manual.
a manual 5sfe pulls like an auto 3.0 (3mz or 1mz)
a manual 3.0 pulls like nothing youd think (faster then any v6 commodore or ford that yorue willing to drag at the lights
the 5sfe would be the best route for either the turbo bling OR the ultimate power camry (3sgte swap - rear engine mount needs fab, the other 2 fit, the s-series tranny mount will need to be modified (simple) to fit the e153)
a mildy boosted 5sfe (cheap with no IC and 3sgte parts) or a stock v6 will get you in the 15's with no effort (just put the foot down and watch as the 400meters pass). (dont you hate how the 3mz camrys overseas do stock mid 14's?
a worked v6 will be hot... (headwork gains are huge, and new vavles/camregirind for more lift...need more lift above 6000rpm) considering the v6's put down 90% of their torque from 2500rpm. plenty of rev potential too, i bounce of the limiter (7100rpm) in 1st and 2nd (auto) no problem because the power is still strong and smooth.
suspension wise ksport/d2 have full coilovers for a grand and a bit, and whiteline got hte rest of teh bars covered. cams arent that heavy... 1450kg or so.
