why does my fuel guage fluctuate...electrical? Wed, 06 July 2005 13:22 Go to next message
hi guys, well after getting my engine running the best it has ever run thanks to you guys, i have caused another issue to develop in my car.
following this thread:
http://forums.toymods.org.au/index.php?t=msg&t h=70103&rid=3721&S=03b4cca48e352afa1d97408 d50d6d7b5&pl_view=&start=0#msg_693415

i placed a idle control valve running off two wires in the engine bay, one dark blue from the loom coming out the drivers side bay just behind the window washer resivior and also a whte with black stripe wire from the same loom area.
the idle control vavle works as expected but now the fuel guage doesn't work as expected.
if i idle it shows the correct level of fuel, but if i start driving around the guage goes down below empty.

i assume i have done a wiring bad thing but i don't know what it would be, did i possibly tap into the wire that is used for the fuel guage and it can't handle running both the guage as well as the idle control valve, i thought it would just be considered a power wire when the engine is in the 'on' position.

i will trace these 2 wires back to see where i tapped them from on the weekend but i was hoping someone might be able to explain what i actually did in terms of electrical theory.

i have a constant 13.5 volts of battery power at all times of driving

Sounds weird, since the fuel sender wire shouldn't need to go to the engine bay?
Correct me if I'm wrong...
