more hilux gearbox question
Thu, 07 July 2005 10:54
hi.
ive been doing research all arvo.
i have a 82 hilux with a 18rgeu engine but the gearbox is shattered.
im trying to identify the gearboxs i have and what to do.
after viewing pics. the gear selector housing on the g/b in the ute at the moment is small and has 4 bolts holding it to the gearbox http://www4.tpgi.com.au/users/loats/technical/ma61 /images/gearboxes/t50w50.jpg
so perhaps the one in the middle im not sure.
tho im am a lot mor esure of the spare one i have looks like this http://www4.tpgi.com.au/users/loats/technical/ma61 /images/gearboxes/Toyota_Supra_5spd.jpg
can this be correct im quite sure of the housing there.
imm not sure if this matters but the slector on the blown gearbox was chrome, also the bushing inside th egearbox was this red thing.
on my spare the gear selector is black. (its not shiney metal painted black) inside the selector was a small clear bushing on the end of the selector and a spring.
so my questions are. what gearboxs do i have?
is it worth putting in the spare gearbox is it strong enough?
also how does the gearbox cross member come out where is it bolted, is it on the chasis rails?
thanks for the help ive got so far.
The VIN number will reveal all, post it up on here and im sure someone will be able to tell you straight away.. My guess is its a W5* of some sort, could be wrong.. good luck
