13dollar custom engine mount(s)*big pics* Sun, 10 July 2005 10:25 Go to next message
a while ago i asked about options for strengthening engine mounts

so thought about it for a while spoke to the old man lol we came up with going to a 4x4 shop and buying a nissan patrol neulathane (spelling) mount.

this will vary for different cars but mine is a 162 celica with a 3sgte. i removed the front mount punched out the inner ring which the standard rubber mount is connected to. got a bit of 3inch tube with 4mm walls. welded that into the outer ring of the engine mount then i cut off as much rubber as i could from the mount which holds the sleeve which the main bolt goes through. then added the patrol mount into the stainless tube, added the sleeve and test fitted and then later installed it is 3 times as firm as a normal engine mount but still not engine vibration.

aint a real good write up so ill post some pics Razz

my computer wont let me cut the pics down so sorry

You can also buy blocks of polyurethane at plastics suppliers (generally cheaper than buying it from suspension places), and if you have a lathe, make up mounts to fit whatever you need.

What are the dimensions on that urethene bushing? (I know ID is 3", but what is ID & depth?) Looks pretty close to what I need for another application Smile

memory is vague but 73mm rings a bell of the eurathane , and depth dont mater it comes in halves , and mine dont meet each other... but if they were together about 60mm combined

even if this mount is not suitable for your application you could linish it down but they have these mounts for just about every 4x4 you could think of , diff mounts etc one has to be suitable

have resized pics for you if you want them, might still be a bit big, but smaller then what you had, might be a bit more 56k friendly Razz Razz

Would you consider making these for people on toymods? Like a full set of mounts for the engine and gearbox?

personally i dont think doing the other 3 mounts will help a whole lot more that mount takes the majority of the torque from the engine with that mount. the engine now doesnt get thrown around the engine bay.

for me to make replica mounts i need the old mount.

Oh ok, cool.
I filled my front engine mount with polyurethane, it seems to have done the job. But i think my gearbox mounts are shot, might have a look at them and maybe polyurethane them up.
