Ive had nothing but trouble with odyssey.. Went through 2 of them over a 1 - 2 year period. Sux when they are so expensive.
Car would never start if it'd been sitting around for more than 3 days.
But now I got one of the Merc batteries that have the vent tubes that u run to outside the car.
Its awesome, car can sit around for 2 weeks and still crank over really quickly.

I've heard nothing but bad reports about oddessy batteries particularly in a car that isn't a daily drive.
That being said I haven't looked into them in a few years so they may have improved their product somewhat.

Yeah I should mention my car wasn't daily driver and I talked to their tech department and said for cars that are not daily driven with oddyssey you need to always have them on a trickle charge.
But i dont see the benefit of dry cell really over these batteries that are designed to go in the back of cars (mercs, bmw's, porsche, etc).. they have the tubes to vent the gasses and less than half the price of dry cell!
My mate has a dry cell though and drives the car every day and for 3 years now it's been good.

I was looking at the oydessy's so I'm glad i got those replies.
Do you still need a box for the merc style batties from what I have heard they don't come with one in the merc so you shouldn't need a box.
I wanted to go oydessy cause of the size, I'm toying with the idea of fiting two small narrow ones into a long narrow gap and running them in parrellel

I mounted mine in a box just to be safe really..
But in my old mans porsche the battery is just in the back under the carpet really. Not in a sealed box or anything. Tubes vent outside. Thats how it is from factory.

I was just looking into batteries yesterday for the girlfriends car.
I normally use dry cell batteries for work but at around $250 its not worth it for her car. Started looking at the batteries with the vent tubes which are a bargain for around $120. But then I found some fully sealed bike batteries!
I'm not sure if they are dry cell, but the specs state they emit no gases at all. They are not as high capacity as the larger car batteries, but plenty big enough to start a car. And in fact the place I went to sponsors a WRX which is using one.

Where are you guys buying your batteries from?
I think mine is on the way out and those ones with the built in vent tubes sounds like the go.

I've got an Odyssey in my car, it's been there fro over 2 years now ... works great if you use it all the time. Don't let them sit, as other people have stated they will go flat.
Cheers,
Kirk

I have a tiny odyssey battery in my car and it was sitting for about 2 mths before It was used for the first time and then sat for about 6 weeks, only being used to start the car about once a week to move it (without an alternator connected to re-charge it) and it lasted that period fine. I needed to jump start it the last time, but it's not been any problem since...

Just a thought....
I wonder just how many of these people that bag out odyssey batteries have actually had experience with them first hand, and how many have heard about one thru a mate of a mate of a mate etc..
