Need help with alternator on GZE Wed, 13 July 2005 03:57 Go to next message
I have a gze sprinter and the alternator it seems has stopped working. I think this is what happened because my volt gauge was on 10 when i started car then dropped to zero when i drove it. 500m later the car stopped and completly dead battery. the battery is a new century so it cant be that. I think the problem is that when the conversion was done the guy has not lined the alt up with the crank so i'd imagine it would stuff the bearing or something.

So has anyone had this problem with it not lining up?
Is it a dead alternator or something else?

Any advice much appreciated

checking that all the plugs are connected properly is a start, make sure all fuses and the fuseable link is fine.

when my gze alt stuffed up i bought a universal 120amp bosch alternator, much better. Smile

i see a couple of problems here...

The Witzl Sez:

1/ Go and get the PROPER ancillary belt configuration for a 4a-gze... what's been done there is a complete FUCKUP. The alternator is being held on by the bottom swivel bolt and the belt only!!!! You should have the air con compressor there, and the belt going from crank to aircon to alt to idler/tensioner pulley to crank.... lucky for you i have this equipment, at a price. Smiley =

2/ Judging by the installation of that alternator - it's wired like arse. The alternator won't charge if the charge light isnt wired up... nor if the fuse/fusible link is blown.

3/ Dont even THINK about asking for a toyota genuine part, unless you like having a bleeding arse. Shocked

Here is how the alt SHOULD be mounted.... ignoring the MSpaint style drawing on the pic, you can see how the belt on the exhaust side goes arount the air con compressor AND the alternator, very much unlike your setup!!

AND HOLY FUCK I JUST SAW THAT THE IDLER PULLEY IS BEING USED LIKE A FIXED RIBBED PULLEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dude, if you are in sydney - contact me.
