Now firstly I have done a few seaches and found all the info very useful... didnt realise how far back this forum went Smile

Now, I know that it can be done, and quite easily. My questions are as follows, this is my second car so I am thinking of rebuilding/upgrading a few bits on the engine before I put it in. What would you suggest? Alot of people say forgies, and when it gets closer to the date I will look into it? But are there other things that go wrong/weak areas with this engine?

Cheers

well do u have an engine, it all depends on the condition of the motor. Forgies are only really usefull for high boost conditions and they wear out the block faster than conventional pistons, if you are to stick to stock boost or just slightly higher, get a good set of hypereurtics and you will be fine.

I dont have the engine, it is yet to be purchased. As a second car it wont be driven heaps, just more of a weekender, and as such I am not so worried about the wear on the block. Dont most people run forgies?

most people who run forgies either run high boost or plan to run high boost, then u do have people who waste money when they really dont need them. A lot of people replace the CT20 turbo on the 3T-GTE as they dont last too long even when given good care. Also you have to be careful with the gearbox you use, W55 would be a good choice but the 3T varient are becoming harder to come by for a resonable price, as im looking at one for my as of yesterday paperweight engine. Also im not sure if this is different but i dont see a difference in the timing cover, you may experience oil leaks from the front timing cover
