Air temp and coolant temp sensor for IG5 Mon, 03 June 2002 08:50 Go to next message
I've now got most of the bits i need for my ig5 setup, but I now also require a few other things. These being AN air temperature sensor and a coolant temperature sensor. I'm guessing alan will know the best of this stuff.

Air Temperature Sensor

I have been told that the camira air temperature sensor works with the ig5. The original haltech air temp sensor is about $100, so I'd like to avoid having to buy that if I can. I went to repco, just for some info, and the guy behind the counter seemed to think that the Camira didn't have such a device. I wasn't too sure, so I couldn't really comment. Anyone got any ideas?

Coolant Temperature Sensor

Same story as above, except the guy at repco said that there are two temp sensors. One that is merely a switch that triggers the ECU to auto choke or not to auto choke, and the other that is a analogue fairly inaccurate sensor that sends the temperature through to the gauge on the dash. Now my 1g-gte already has a coolant temp sensor on it, and I'm wondering if that will work with the ig5? does anybody know the answer to this one?
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Strad

Stradlater,

The guy at repco is ill informed. The camira has a range of injection systems these include l_jet style which use a flap air flow meter. It has 1 coolant sensor and a time switch to the ecu when the engine is cold. You don't want this setup and it would be for early camira's say before JD camira( this is what the repco guy was looking at). The JD camira uses throttle body injection different to above you can see when you look at it, it has a carby like setup on the manifold. The JD setup most likely has the sensors you need. But to be on the safe side go for the JE camira sensors because these are the ones that will go with the Haltech system ( the map sensor does any way and I am positive the other sensor will) the air temp sensor will be in the manifold, the water temp sensor is on the back of the motor on the drivers side near the end of the manifold. Pick a part will sell them cheap say $10 or so for both. The same sensors can also be found on VN,VP,VS. The guy behind the counter at repco doesn't realise the air temp sensor fit in the air flow meter of the system he was talking about. $100 from haltech, there dreaming
