in anticipation for future engine swaps, i was wondering if it is possible to change the 18rgeu to a front oil pan position?
if it is still possible to source a ta23 crossmember that would solve that issue (or could go the slightly trickier KE70 Rack and pinion conversion) but is there an oil pan that exists that would suit the appllication to allow the 18rgeu to be retained without too much work (engine mounts included)?
has anyone ever bothered with this?

I don't know of any front sump configurations for 18RG/U/EU engines.
Celicas had a fairly central sump-slightly rear.
Coronas had same layout but with centred pickup and appropriate baffling for that pick up (I'll be using that one to avoid oil delivery issues on hard right hand corners).
Hiluxs used basically same sump as celica/corona but it has an extra lowlying area at the back for extra volume and tilt allowances.
I don't know about the R engines hiaces at all.
Of course you could always do a custom sump and custom pick up. I may think about that if I get around to doing steering.
There are a few cars that have their rack and pinion mounted infront of the front wheel, Triumph 2500S cars do, as do a few newer front wheel drive cars (Mazda 121 Metro does I think).

hiaces are no good (similar to celicas) and the hilux 4wd sump may work
i put my old 18RG in the RA60 and just cut the rear of the sump to a right angle to clear the xmember.
also welded a extra "box" on the front to bring the oil capacity back to normal
i am a bit concerned however with the oil pickup. i modifed the little gauze filter thing and it sits right at the back on the drivers side of the sump.
will i have issues with right hand corners regarding oil starvation??
