hey just wondering if anyone has done this converesion before cause am going through the options of engine conversions while the car is off the road and being painted. Thought id find out after reading all the info on how much rotors can haul in light cars. I've checked out tim frost's one but he seemed to do a lot of extra stufff to get it in. maybe cause it has something like 500hp??. was thinking just rewelded engine mounts, modified tailshaft and standard. any help much appriciated cheers

i think without significant re-engineering of the whole car, a 13BT is going to be over capacity limit for a light-weight TA22.
in queensland anyway.

Yup, no chance in hell of getting a 13BT street legal in Qld under normal modification rules. Of course if you register it as an ICV you can do just about anything (if your engineer approves of course), but we're talking tens of thousands of dollars to do that.

Individually Constructed Vehicle
Stuffing a turbo rotor into ANY small car is a reasonable recipe for fun, so long as you know what you're doing with a rotary!

NA 13B could fit into an TA22 - but you'll need your engineer on your side... see here for legal example (qld rego)

to put 1 in an ra23 was a piece of piss. I can't see it being any harder in a 22 as I still had heaps of room in front of the engine and I even mooved the motor and box forward by about 20mm.
Mine was non turboed and legal, turboed isn't but with a bridge port it will haul ass and old school is way cool.
Give it a shot..... Good luck

everyone loves an injected bridgey
and also if u decide to go for an rx3 u still wont get it legal with a 13bt without some $'s and some engineers involved
and dont expect to pick up any decent rx3 for less than around $8k these days
personally id go a ta22 with a nice n/a 4age (read BIG cams and 12:1 -ish CR) or a boosted 2tg

That's a rather hand-wavey, vague kinda question!
teh TA22 is lighter, shorter, and in a lot of peoples opinions, the sexy one. The RA23 is longer in the front end, has a bonnet bulge and is about 100kg heavier. The advantage of the extra weight in the RA23 is in conversion calculations. Essentially, you can stick a slightly larger engine in there. And you can stick sixes in with slightly less grief. TA23 is an RA23 with a T series engine and gearbox in it.
If u wanna follow the well trodden 1GGTE path (2L straight 6, twin turbo), an RA23 is your body of choice. For a 4 cyl < 2.5L, the TA22 is probably as good an option, 'cos you have less weight.
