i am selling the 18R-GU (head no. 88253) out of my RA40 ( other one - not one in avatar). engine runs although not as perfect as it could be. the timing chains rattle quite bad so they would need replacing. the carbys seem like they would need a rebuild/balance to get the engine running smoothly again.


it doesnt any blow smoke and there are minimal oil leaks comparing to other RG's. it was regularly maintained and serviced so i dont think there would be any probs with it.

the guy that owned it previous to me didnt thrash it and didnt take it above 3500.

probly best for this motor to have a refresh - give it new timing chains, new rings and bearings etc.

it also has extractors of decent size - bigger diameter than a set of pacemakers ive seen

no bubbles coming out the radiator or cappachino in the oil filler so engine seems good in that respect

i can also supply a W50 5speed if required

i would advise the buyer to replace the timing chains as a precaution but then again there is a chance that the tough old 18rg may last forever the way it is Confused . the guy i bought it off drove it down from cairns to my place (townsville) and had no problems at all Smile

i will be also advertising the engine and gbox in the local newspaper next saturday (23rd) so chances are it will be gone by then so first in best dressed i guess


asking $750 for the engine alone or $850 for the box and engine.

havent got any 18rg con rods but i have some 18rc con rods if you want


ill ask a mate about the manifold. he has carbys on them - you want them too?

no thanx for the 18rc rods. Just after 18rg ones.

Only want the maniold, plan to modify it for SU's or ill have to make my own(more fun).

this engine also has decent sized extractors 4-2-1. has a brand new thermostat also.

the other day i took the tappet cover off and there doenst seem to be any damage. Smile
