Thanks, but it is still a black art as the circumference is not the same as the surface that touches the belt.

Just tried 3 diff lengths, running back to the parts shop to give it another go Mad

being a flat multi rib 5pk belt, if you wrap some string around the path needed and get a measurement you cannot go wrong in finding the right length belt required. you should have enough adjustment on the tensioner idler for 5-10mm in belt length difference.

actually, not that black..

basically... if the belt is Amm thickness, the outside does a fixed amount more distance than the inside...asuming the belt is a circle, and the difference in radius is Amm.. the difference in circumference is 2Pi(R+A) - 2PiR = 2PiA

ie approx 6.3mm longer for each mm of belt thickness, so if belt is 4mm thick (from bottom of rib grooves) the outside will be 25.2mm longer than the inside....

i would be very interested for you to try this since you have the belt off anyway Wink

Cya, Stewart

edit: this works for any circle things, ie race tracks (maybe american ones Razz).. 1m further out from a certain line means you have 2Pi x 1 metres further to travel, ie 6.3meters for each extra meter you are further out... soa car width of what? 3m = 18m further distance... aaaanyway

I agree but there is also the fact that the belt does not wrap around the whole pulley only like 2/3rds or sumin.

Anyhoo i gotz one now but thanks for the help all.
