How does the dizzy tell the ignitor when to power the coil.
I realise with starting the power goes through the ignition switch to the starter, turning the engine over.
While also pumping fuel etc etc but how does the ignitor and coil get power and how can i check to see if the coil is getting power?

There's usually a separate circuit which powers the coil on startup. This circuit bypasses the ballast resistor, thus increasing the voltage available to the coil at startup. How to check it? A multimeter.
