Hey
Just wondering what's the towing capacity of a 1998/99 V6 Camry?
I'm thinking of towing a small Datto 1200 Ute
are the camry's capable of this or is is too heavy?

we have a 2002 camry touring same shape just with the updated tail lights etc. And my parents have been looking at buying a caravan. I think with a braked trailer the limit is somewhere around 1000-1200kg it ain't a lot in comparison to the commodores and falcons.

Oh and remember you have to add in the wieght of a trailer so you'd probably be pushing the camry's limit

A trailer that has brakes versus one that doesn't. A braked trailer makes it easier for a car as it does not have to do all the braking for the extra mass on the rear.

Dude,
1st read the Owners Manual, it'll tell you what the limit is.
Then you will probably need a Heavy Duty Towbar from Hayman Reese.
Then a trailer with brakes, a transmission oil cooler, upgraded brakes fro the Car(better Pads + Disks)
Maybe some heavy duty springs fro the rear.

Dude... I would'nt ask if the car has the manual...
I just called Move Yourself and their car trailers are 600kg and not braked
I just found out that a camry's towing capacity for unbraked trailer is 600kg so I can just tow the trailer and not the car

what is the deal with towing capacity? Is this the law or are you asking purely for safety concerns?

How fun are dingos ?????
I've towed a full SA63 celica on a car trailer with a stock SA63 and it did fine untill i had to turn into my drive way.
The trailer pushed the back of the tow car round and it jacknifed wheni went to turn into my driveway.
Sop only tow what is recommended unless u want to ruin the back of your car !

oh and by the way if your v6 camry cant tow a 1200 datto ute on a trailer i think u should buy a new car cause even our 18rc and 18rg could tow more weight then one of those.
if you are that concerd go and buy an old rt104 corona with a tow bar they are indestructable. you could probly get one for a few hundres dollars

I just dont want to risk damaging the car, I know it can tow it, I've seen old datsuns towing another datsuns... and toyotas towing even bigger cars than the tow car. It just safety concern and concern about the car getting damaged.

Yep, 1200kg braked.
I've been trying to find out what the difference is with the 2002 onwards camrys, cause they're rated to 1600kg, but the chassis, engine & drivetrain appear the same Toyota Australia don't seem to be much help.
