has my boost controller gone? Tue, 19 July 2005 12:59 Go to next message
this is in my st165 gen1 3sgte.

when i plant my foot to the ground, my boost pressure rises as normal, and sits at the point where i have set me boost controller too (about 9-10psi). does that for a couple of seconds, then all of a sudden it just shoots of from the 9psi mark up to about 13-14! almost like the wastegate is slamming shut, or my boost controller cant handle it.

the car is unmodded except for the boost controller and catback exhaust.

do u think it could be as simple as a broken boost controller? ive also looked at the vacume toobs conecting the boost controller to the turbo and to wastegate actuator, and they have some unfriendly bends which bends the tube in a restrictive way.

probably the bends in your piping- what you are experiencing is boost spike or boost creep-

any leaks or nasty bits in the piping (as far as i know) can cause boost controllers to do weird things...

best wait for someone with some experience to answer, but at a guess, i'd say its your piping.

are you using a bleed valve or electronic boost controller?

after i fixed a 1mm leak in a peice of pipe running into the throttle i went fron running 9 psi > 13 psi with the boost controller set at the same setting... check all the pipes make sure there isn't any leaks

its ur boost guage....st165s are supposed to hit fuel cut at 12 psi...mine hits it alot earlier 10.xx..ive heard quite a few hit it alot earlier...so if it were relly spiking to 13-14 you would be hitting fuel cut..when i fit a cheap guage to mine with stock boost it would raise to 5 then after a few seconds jump to anywhere between 9 and 15...(tvsv was still enabled but it wasnt the problem)..problem dissapeared when i got all the kinks out of the line for my guage...if you wan to run a boost controller i strongly reccomend u disable the tvsv anyway...so disable your tvsv..then check over the line to ur guage for kinks and such

hope this helps
