wilbo666 wrote on Thu, 21 July 2005 16:20 | edit: this may seem a bit rough, at first glance it looked like your were asking what the ratios of the RA60 box were...when at alter inspection you may be asking if the ratios in that box will suit an ae86...
|
and of course if the ratios are unsuitable then wilbo's home for unwanted W-series gearboxes would be more than willing to accept these unwanted orphans of the toyota world

I think they have the option of W55, W57 and W58?...not 100% sure on that, someone that has/or has had a RA60 in the past may shed more light on that.
If you do a search you will find a picture showing the 4 different shifter positions that the alloy cased gearboxes can come in... the RA60,RA65 and MA61 have the second shifter position from the right which is the second closest to the front of the car avaliable. I have no idea what shifter position is required for a AE86.
Have a search in the forsale section and you will find a number of 4a -> w5x bellhousings that have been offered in the past and currently I believe.
Cheers

early 55,57 and 58 are identical bar the 58 has a longer overdrive.
They ALL look identical, and ALL have alloy sandwich plates

Far as I know, the RA60s all have '57s, SA63s have '55s, and RA65s have '57s?

i'd say that a combination of reading Ed's gearbox research, noting down the trans code from the car's ID plate, looking at the thing and (if you have time to waste) carefully counting rotations on the input& output shafts for different gears you should be able to identify the box accurately.
see here <http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Pit/9975/dataBy Subject/Gearboxes.html> for data needed to help calculate ratios.
search for 'gearbox' for the other stuff.
