5-Lug Hubs

Just wondering what you guys thought, whether or not these hubs would be suitable,
Here are some pics,

The rotor would have to bolt onto the face of the hub,
The inner and outer bearings are spot on and the offset from the hub face to the spring perch is pretty much identical from the original hub to the aftermarket 5-lug hub,
These new 5-lug hubs are supposed to be good for 500kg a corner and my engineer has said they should be okay but might be an idea to use stronger studs, he hasnt seen it yet though,
What yall think???

If its fits, is strong enough and the offset is correct, get em.
What price though?

can you list the bearing & seal part numbers?
(that's not a trailer hub is it?)

oldcorollas wrote on Fri, 22 July 2005 09:16 | from the pic it looks a little flimsy.... large flat flange with fairly sharp corner at the base onto a skinny bearing carrier... might be good fro trailer but wouldn't want to see it near a Z car
then again, what do i know, it might be pefectly fine
heh heh, they are cheap enough to test at least one to destruction

I think I know where they came from. I made this one up myself for a test fit.

Its a trailor Hub from Arkengineering, part # FH150,
Im going to show it to the engineer next week and see what he says,
But ive taken some measurements of this bugger and i think im going to have a really hard time finding anyone rotors that will slip over it and be a nice tight fit,

BMW rotors might fit. Just need to re-drill the stud pattern and lathe a centering ring. My Crown drum hub looks similar and I have BMW rotors.

Jayem, What would you attach the centring ring to, the hub or the rotor?
Or does it just side down on the hub?

With "compression fit" to hub.
I could take pics of my solution.

Thats what the engineer thought,
He liked my engine mounts, said he wouldnt pass my car with the trailor hubs..............

obviously a bit too brave for the engineer
seriously: how hard would they be to machine out of a lump of suitable steel - assuming that you could get access to a CNC mill ? could you use a light alloy that's machinable?

I looked at alot of hubs from other cars over the last couple of days and they looked alot stronger than the dodgy trailor hubs i saw on some early Volvo's,
I looked at Jags, Volvo's, Fords, Holdens, Nissan, none were really that suitable,
Buts its truly amazing how many cars use the same bearings as the zed,
Like every Holden made between 1957-1990, most 60's & 70's fords, lots & lots of Toyota's, every Volvo from 1968-85 & heaps of Nissans/Datto's,
But no hubs really suited,
All of them had weird offsets and the distance between the bearings was always off, so the hubs would have required machining,
BUT.............the problem is solved, ive managed to track down some Hubs from Hoppers Stoppers in Melbourne made from K1045 Steel, supposed to be strong stuff, rated at 630 Mega-Pascals (whatever that means) but supposed to be high-tensile steel, engineer said that would be fine,
Its got the correct offset, has a 5-stud Nissan Pattern, which is a Ford/Mitsubishi and some Toyota (5 by 114.3mm),
Brand new with new Bearings, seals and caps $320/Pair,
Engineer frowned upon using alloy hubs for street use,
The engineer liked my engine mounts/gearbox crossmember though...........YAY!!!
Also found hubs that might have been a possibility made from Billet 4140 steel, this stuff is supposed to be a tad bit stronger, rated at 770-930 Mega-Pascals , but much much much harder to machine,
