yeah the engine code ses ra63, its definately an 18rgeu... irs, disc brakes all round, electronic dash, elec sunroof, no GT badges tho, just one celica badge tis all... i hav no idea bout the gearbox, the ratios are very similar to my ra40.. theres not too much rust and everything but the odometer works.. its got different cams in it so it idles like shit, im guessing theyre outta an earlier model 18rg. i paid $1000 and 2 cartons of beer hehe.. ive had no luck finding any info on the net about them, how many were made, performance figures, value..

im building an SA63 into A GT-S US Spec with an 18RG with Twin Solex for now but they are a damn nice car with them in it what is it do you want to know about them i have researched them heaps to build mine up.
but it would be good to get some pics of yours up aswell.
oh and mine has about 190HP at the Fly wheel so it might be a bit more then the standard 18RGEU.
my pic on the side is the 18RG going on its color coded to the color of my car special.
but if you want to know anything let me know.
cheers

The one I stripped was definitely F code IRS. The RA63 is jap spec though so not really surprising. Don't know what interior etc was like as it has already been stripped for a derby car.

Solid axcel or IRS? The TA64 is solid axcel I believe; the TA65 (uber rare) is not. I believe the Ta63 is IRS though. Doens't make sense, I know, for the 64 to have a solid axcel and the number before it to be IRS, but I've been wading through a lot of yahoo japan auctions lately, and rear suspension stuff is often listed as AE86/TA64.
They even got AA63s, which had 4As & teeny front brakes, and AA60s with 3As, TA60s, and Sa60s.
Post pics of the RA63!

Yeah, its a complete myth.
The 18RGEU and W55 from the one I helped strip isn't really sitting in my KE70 ute.
The F code IRS isn't sitting in the shed as a spare for my Starlet.
What was I thinking......

Those are air release valves for the pneumatic lumbar support. Same as the MA61 seats.

cool, you got decent seats as well!
use the pump near the centre console (may be under the seat) to pump up your lumbar support, and the 3 buttons adjust it.
old school and crappy

According to my source, just over 6000.
I find it surprising that only 2500 SA63's were made.
Were they an Australian model only?
Just for Japan to offload 2S-C's and T-series diffs? Who knows...

Hello, I have a 1982 Celica GT which here (Argentina) came with a 18R-G engine and IRS. Can anybody tell me which is the gearbox and diff in there? plate doent say anything about it!
The diff says LSD on the righ side:

Diff is F-series LSD.
But you'll need to spin the axles to work out ratios.
After you know the diff ratio, post a few speed vs rpm results in various gears, from that we can work out the gearbox.

Spin the output shafts on the diff, and count how many times the input shaft spins per single revolution of the output shafts.
It will be 3.5, 3.7, 3.9, 4.1, 4.3 times.
One of them.
If the gearbox is out, then thats easy.
Put it in first, and spin the output shaft once, count how many times the input shaft turns.
Then put it in fifth, and do that same.
Let us know the figures.

how interesting. its an 82, build no.23 with an 18r-g... mines an 81, build no 145... with 18rgeu... what the?! its a twin carb with an air box.. 18rgu?? the seats look standard.. i know my ra63 has W55 gearbox (supra) and diff is F292.. but they seem to be different cars, so its hard to say that the diff/ box will be the same... nice looking car tho.

The RA63-0000023 was a July '81 build.
But it probably wasn't exported to Argentina until '82.
As for the motor change (carby vs efi), you'll find thats market specific.
IIRC, there are some MX83's, or RX81's as they actually are, in Cuba, with 21R-C's
