Track tyre pressures? Fri, 13 December 2002 04:26 Go to next message
I just got a set of Falken Azenis. While not a real R tyre, I need them for road use as well (till I can afford 2 sets of wheels). Not something you can do on real R tyres!

What pressures do people run on the track?
Do you run different pressures for road vs. track?
How many k's have people got from the Azenis?

When im at Wakefield i usually run at least 38-40psi.
All round in my Falken Azenis ST115s.
My car is a daily driver. I bought a set of Azenis back in january this year. I got about 33% tread left. Around 15,000kms so far. It is a softer compound so u have to expect faster wear. This includes a track day and several old pac runs.

Is 38-40 psi a good track pressure? I was thinking alot lower myself, seeing as in track conditions tyres warm up and pressures rise. Probably good for wear I guess, but most likely not too good for grip.
I would say something more like 32 psi all around for a rear wheel drive, perhaps 30/33 front/rear on front wheel drive ( fronts warm up alot more). Dunno, I'm *definitely* not an expert.
Depends what profile you are running, and how heavy the car is too.

depends on what sort of profile your tyres are.
if you've got 18" chromies in the middle of those tyres, you'd be wanting at least 38-40psi.

if they're more like my supra (14" stockers) then I use a 33-31 set up for the road, and I'd jack that up by 2 or 4 psi for a track day

It all depends on the tyre construction as to what preasure you run when you go to a track.
It is recomended that standard road tyres when used on a track be put to about 38-40 as their side wall construction is not designed to take track work loading at low PSI, as you start to get higher in the tyre range, the side wall construction gets stronger so you can run a lower PSI,

Thats my opinion anyway.

I pumped my Azenis' up to 40 psi cold. On the track the fronts went to 48 psi and the rears 45 psi. This on a 40+ degree day. I have an AWD Familia. I lowered them all 'round by 3 psi and they felt better. Mates with normal road tyres gained about 3 - 5 psi over cold.

I think next time I will pump to 37 psi cold.

Problem is, should be measuring tyre temps, not pressures. Does anyone have a tyre pyrometer? Smiley $$
