oil drain has to be pointing downwards, otherwise gravity can't do it's thing.
as for shifting the bugger - soak join with WD40 over night?

sounds like you'll have to do that again. when i was facing the core and housings around on my t25 for the feroza i made sure the center core was facing the right way for the oil return 1st, then moved the housings to where they needed to be.
i gave my ex housing a 'friendly' tap with a mallet before it came loose enough to move on the core.

Be REALLY careful separating the exhaust housing, especially if you have a ceramic exhaust wheel. I recommend loosening the bolts but not removing them altogether, so you can tap the exhaust housing to free it up, but don't have to worry about it coming all the way off and hitting the wheel. Then take the botls out completely, and a twisting motion is usually the best way to separate. BE CAREFUL OF THE EXHAUST WHEEL! It's mega-easy to break fins off.
