W55 and F series diffs Mon, 25 July 2005 09:23 Go to next message
Hey everyone just a few quick questions. i have done a GTE conversion in my car (z10 soarer) and am running the W55 gearbox and F282 diff. should i have any concerns about these breaking or can they take a bit of power? i don't do burnouts or anything so its not like i put the car under excessive loads. I just don't want to take this thing out for its first drive to see its power, change gears to fast and have to go pick up the pieces or go home on a tow truck.

They won't break, but get an LSD when you can.
So much more fun to drive.

You'll hate the 4.3:1 diff too.

Get a 3.9

You haven't specified which engine you have ("GTE" doesn't help much), but even if it's a 2JZ you won't have any problems. Unless you drive like I do. Embarassed

yeah an LSD is on the cards. I have heard i will also hate the W55 compared to the W58 as its gears are tighter too. i guess in my little knowledge that a 4.3 has less top speed as a 3.9? so really my gears are going to be ridiculously short? i guess i will have more torque. I am not interested in driving 200Km/h. hopefully we should get some wheel spin Razz and yes i am aware i mentioned i don't do burnouts. thats not what i mean.

And sorry its a 1G-GTE so it has piss all power really

W55 + 4.3 gears won't be ridiculously short, they will be LUDICROUSLY short.

Maybe even get a 3.73 if you are sticking with the W55.
