How do I pull 3 Piece rims apart? Mon, 25 July 2005 12:31 Go to next message
Need some help on how to pull apart some 3 piece rims, want to clean up the center section (get rid of what looks like house paint). I've taken out all the bolts and put a bit of wd40 around it to see if that would help but didnt seam to do much, is there a certain way to do this or just use brute force?

Only reason I need to get them out is to clean up all the hard to get to corners, or maybe get a bit of paint thinners on it. Would it just be better to get some thinners onto it rather then pulling it apart?

Pic of the rims, cleaned most of the paint of the top

i wouldnt pull them apart, my simmons V4 3 piece wheels screwed me around for a while to get put back together, 3 tyre shops all said they cant rebuild them, so i sealed them up myself.

Yeah, im coming to the point of giving up, paint thinners should harm the outside part of the rims should it? If not then ill just go buy some thinners and a toothbruth.

Something else, wheres a good place to get rims fixed (gutter rash, pothole damage and maybe new paint job) would any rim/tyre place do it?

cheers

neale's wheels is probably the best place to get this done - they specialise in 3-piece rims. generally most 3-piece manufacturers tell people not to ufck with the rims - either take it to a pro or leave it alone Smile

just find a place in the yellow pages that comes under wheel repairs. i know of one guy local in thornleigh on pioneer ave. repaired my simmons and did a pretty good job. i'm about to take one back to get the seal on the wheel done since it has a slow leak Sad
