Soarer in Melbourne - good person to look over

Peoples,
A mate here in Melbourne is looking at buying a 2.5TT Soarer.... not knowing what to look for, problem-wise or tech wise, he naturally came to me... and so now I'm here!
1. He would like to get someone to look over the car (mechanic, etc), and is happy to pay $$$ to not get a lemon. Can anyone suggest someone? Would the RACV be knowledgeable enough???? Anyone know a good mechanic???
2. Any other tips?
Thanks all... want to stop him from rushing in and getting something he may not like... want him to become a member here, don't want him to be turned away by an inferior product.

Get RACV to look at it for ya...they might take a while but its coz they track everythign down.
My mate was gonna buy an EVO3, WRXETA or something like that...and RACV did a check on the car and the back quarter panel was totally smashed into and was fixed in Japan. The end result was 1 very unnoticeable (unless u look at certain angles) repair. Anyway, turns out if the EVO is boosted, the chassis will twist. Dunno if its possible but the engineers in Japan reckon so.
They tracked every owner, insurance they were with, accidents and stuff. Even how it was shipped to Australia and who shipped it. Pretty cool stuff, didn't think it was possible to get that info.
I've seen some other reports and they pretty much check the car on the spot and dont go into the history. Full RACV check does that. Worthwhile if ur fussy and want to know everything.

Thanks for the advise Rattlehead ...
I'm the one who's actually looking at getting the Soarer. Here's a little more description about the car ... Let me know what you think ...
2.5 TT Automatic Leather Seats (They normally don't come in leather) Sun Roof Tranction Control (Again they normally don't come in TRC) CD Head unit changed (Can't really tell if it's a V8 model) TEMS suspensions (Do they come in TT or V8?) The rest are all pretty standard.
What really worries me if the dealer told me that the previous owner prefer the TT engine and the V8 options like the TRC and leather seats.
It's probably a V8 Soarer but replaced with a TT or it could be the options that the owner had from factory.
Tell me what you Toyota fanatics think.
Cheers, Synergy

Synergy All those options listed were available on both the TT and V8 Soarers. Just about the only option unique to the V8 was Active suspension found on the rare UZZ32. What sort of milleage is claimed, what general condition is it in, what colour is it and how much are they asking? Also check the rear quarters for repair damage - Japanese drivers had a habit of getting them sideways into stationary objects!

Hi Manny,
Here's the full description that I know of. Lexus SC300 TT Automatic 1992 model Mileage approx 71,000KM Dark green almost black at night Leather Seats Sun Roof Tranction Control TEMS suspensions Kenwood CD Head unit changed with 7 speakers Turbo Timer Very clean engine bay - brand new cooling hose etc Full body kit 1 year insurance
All the above for $27,200.00
Test drived the car. Lots of power and smooth is all I can say. Silence engine too. But then I don't know much about cars especially one with turbo not to mention twin
As for the rear quarters, I'll give it another check in the weekends. Thanks for the advise.
Let me know what you think ...
Cheers, William

get there before thay open in the morning see how it starts frist thing, get someone to watch the exahust see if theres smoke present, anything but black or fast vanishing white (steam) like blue or white is a sign of a worn/thrashed engine.
