Beams 3SGE 6spd gearbox Thu, 28 July 2005 13:42 Go to next message
Hey all

Does the Beams 3SGE 6spd gearbox bolt up to a ST205 3SGTE???
Using the beams flywheel, clutch and any other things needed.

Cheers
Craig

AFAIK... nup. I think there is an extra bolt hole in the GTE, and the starter motor was in a slightly different place... I checked this one out a while ago.

Someone correct me if I'm full of p00p00.

No, the 6 speed was rear wheel drive only. The 5 speed fwd box has an lsd and bolts on to any standard 3sge, so at a guess if you could bolt a first gen gearbox onto a 3sgte (not to sure if you can but do a search and you'll find plenty) you could use the beams gearbox.

Wait, are we talking FWD or RWD BEAMS engine here?

Im convertering a ST205 3SGTE to RWD and i was thinking that the beams 3SGE 6spd would allow me to mount the engine flat and still have the gearbox flat.

Cheers

Glen aka CelicaRA45 should be able to answer this question.

The bellhousing will obviously bolt on. Its just a case of weather the flywheel will bolt onto the Gen3. If it dont i'm sure Glen will be able to sort you out with something.

this maybe abit off the topic, but anyway regarding 3sge gearbox without LSD, and the 3sge with LSD, if i were to put a LSD diff. into a non LSD gear box, would it then be considered a LSD gearbox? or is there more to it then just bolt on the diff to get LSD?

you saw that mr2 LSD on ebay too didn't you? In theory buy replacing the final drive etc with the LSD unit it wouold make it an LSD but it could be a bit more complicated-i think LSD transaxle case is actually slightly bigger and the rerason for this to house the LSD(extra gears etc)

Having pulled apart a few it shouldnt be too hard to replace the LSD unit into if the space is there. But then you;ll have to look at redoing all of the synchrols again etc-in the end it would be cheaper and stronger to find an LSD box as they had the double synchro as standard
