ok, here's the problem.
just say I'm cruising along at 60 kays in 4th, speed changes to 80. I put my foot down and the car revs to about 4000 rpm before it actually starts accelerating. Obviously something is slipping somewhere . Anyone know what it would most likely be?

Your clutch is dead. Don't drive the car again until you've had a new one put in; every time it slips like that it's chewing out your flywheel!
