AE90 Stereo Problems *HELP*

I was putting a Kenwood unit into a AE90 Sedan today and went to turn it on but nothing happened. I put the old unit back and it didn't work either (checked the fuse and was fien on both units and in the car) but I never put the dash fully back together only just the headunit in (just about the whole dash got ripped out because the unit is next to the gauge cluster) I didn't want to put the whole dash back together and for it still not to work. Any suggestions?
Cheers

Did you run an earth to the unit or at least bolt it back in to dash, these units often earth thru the stereo itself and dont hav a seperate earth wire.

The old Sony unit that was in it was running the earth wire through the original harness not a seperate earth to another chassis point and was working.

But come to think about it, i never bolted the cd player back to the chassis as I didn't think it would make a difference and still don't see how it would make a difference.

Get the mulletmeter out, make sure there's power and ground to the right places, sometimes plugging in the antenna will act as an earth while you're trying stuff out...

i always found the earth on the AE92 factory stereo wiring to be lacklustre - put a nice eye terminal on the new head unit's earth wire and bolt it to some nearby metal for a good solid earth.
Next, I would upgrade the BATTERY (permanent power) wire to the head unit, as the factory one was only ever designed to give enough current to hold memory in the head unit, not to power up a decent 200W+ amplifier inside a CD player. Run a decent 18guage (minimum) wire down to the key barrel's permanent power wire and make sure you put a fuse on it.
Of course dont forget to test, solder and electrical tape everything properly.

Well i earthed the wire to a bare metal surface and still nothing. How come the Sony worked before I took it out?
