Hey everyone,

How are you all......

about to purchase a '76' RA23 with an 18rg Motor in it,

the current owner was going to supercharge it with a sc from a 1ggze --> current work so far:

Ported, polished, port matched, extractors, 2" Exhaust system,
heaps of work on the engine......(Car rebuilt from the ground up), Lightened flywheel, 4 wheel discs (From a LEVIN), Sweet seats....(not that they matter when it comes to power)

Just want to know what the general thought is on supercharging the 18rg? does it cope - is it worth it (Since the engines all ready in the car) and what other mods should I consider? I only want to run about 3-5 PSI on the sc?

Any one have any nasty tips? or things to steer away from doing? I know I could bolt on a turbo straight to the 18rg but I'd prefer a supercharger??

Peace!

the first q is, whee are you going to hang the super charger. I had to toss up between aircon, or supercharger, I lived in Townsville, so air won.
as for can they handle then, I have seen two 18rgs with them. All i know is 1 guy put in turbo pistons to take it, and the other just lowered the compression (he had much less cash than the other guy). they are still running OK. they are only running about 5-7psi.
Hope that helps a bit.

Living in adelaide - I can handle having the window down Very Happy

Currently the engine has had the compression lowered to something crazy (I can't remember atm - at work don't ya know...) for the blower to go on...

Good idea / bad idea?

any estimation on HP that I could gain?

the 76 looks like it has ooodles of room in the engine bay too almost as much as my last car.....(HQ Kingswood with 202 space to burn)....but that space will be taken up with a front mount intercooler....Big plans!!!

On another note - does anyone know if two 12" subs will fit in the boot of a 76 leaving room to get the spare tire out?

got a custom design planned Razz

Your gonna be pushing with 2 12" subs in the boot. I got given a tube with 2 8" in it fitted it to the boot can still get a esky in and other goodies but i think your gonna be pushed for space. Id say it can be done but you wont get anything else in there. Good luck anyway.

its easy enough to do if your willing to take your box out when u need to get to your spare but im guessing your looking at a design where u keep the box in.

Custom design where you can keep part of the box in :>

/--\ /--\
/ \-------/ \

Something similar to that anyway - it's hard to draw with ascii Razz

the flat part in the middle will lift out to reveal the spare tire Razz

provided I can make the damn box Razz

but enough sub talk ........... any more thoughts on the sc issue?

Yep there have been a fair few topics on this. Get a 1G-GZE supercharger. The 4A-GZE item is made for a 1.6L motor whereas the 1G version is obviously designed to feed a 2L motor.

the 4agze pumps 1.2l of air while 1g pumps 1.4l of air. decision is based on how much room you have the 1g is a fair bit bigger.
