Trans cooler on 1jz

Hi all,
I am plumbing a trans cooler into my jzx90 auto box and wondered how I can identify which is in and which is out, in terms of fluid flow. It is not labeled.
I am mounting my cooler sideways and want the "in" to be at the top and the "out' at the bottom. I am told that the JZX90 and JZX81 have exactly the same auto box.
Cheers

I'm keen to hear of any info on this topic as well. I want/need a trans cooler ASAP. Went for a moderate drive last night in the 28 degree heat. Boy the transmission tunnel was getting hot. Not wanting to pop a gearbox any time soon.

pull both pipes off... stand there holding them, preferably holding them away from your face ... and get someone to crank the engine with it in park.. you will see which way the oil pumps by which one it comes squirting out of. EASY
I fitted a massive tranny cooler in front of my intercooler. Looks pretty tough and has made gearchanges faster. Especially when i've been up it for a bit , i still have quick changes where as before the fart sound would get longer.
I'm on my 2nd box... tranny cooler is NEEDED on any hard working Auto.

Good suggestion, but, My motor is not running yet and there are no fluids in it. I wanted to plumb it all before I cranked her over. Any other ideas?

I could be wrong here as I'm no transmission expert but as the fluid is pumped under pressure I doubt if it will make any difference which way you plumb the lines.

Thats what I thought but the guy who sold me the cooler said that it could cause a pressure drop in the system??

Hey sorta off the topic a lil but does anyone have a pic of the oil line that goes from the block to the turbos on a 1zj? I just wana verify that I got the right one, wana plumb in a oil cooler before the oil goes to the turbos. Thanks

You'll find there are two banjo bolts on the bottom of the block feeding a turbo each with pressurized oil. Probably not the best place to fit an oil cooler though as the water is what cools the turbos not oil. Turbos want clean oil not cool oil. 1JZs already have factory oil cooler behind the oil filter housing cooled by water.
Oil cooling is not an issue for 1Js unless your running big boost and big HP.
Good luck with it.
