Ed Ordynski's first rally car...

Hi all,
Well I was listening to old man radio (the ABC) the other day and heard an interview with SA's fastest geography teacher Ed Ordynski. As you may know Ed's driving a Team Bates Corolla at the Rally of SA.
However what you may not know is that Ed's first rally car was an early corolla. Apparently it had transverse leaf spring suspension and was a bargin for $600. He came 14th overall and placed pretty highly in his class (under 1300cc). Would this be a KE10?
Any other great toyota rally moments in Aus for folks to share? Too often you hear of the mighty Datto 1600s being the entry level car for rally drivers - where is toyota's place in this history?

Earlier still, and my forst rally car, mid 60's (no I'm not that old) Renault 8 Gordinis. River would remember if I can. Rear engine beasties. Learnt to drive in one.
If anyone says they can drive, put them in one of these. If they don't go backwards off the first corner, then maybe they know what they are talking about. Doesn't need to be set up to oversteer, comes out of the box.

I have just got the biggest hard on over those renaults , 8 Gordini, Alpine and the 5 turbo. And yes, they do swap ends very easily, but boy are the fun

Yes they do pedulum a bit...
But there's nothing better than being able to control it the right way, steer in and power on. None of this swing wildly to make it drift stuff.

I can get you over the edge.
The A110 started with 968cc engine, 160hp at 8000rpm
by the time they stopped production it evolved to 1800 turbo and still only weighed 950 kg!

I heard Chris Atkinsons first rally was also in an old rolla ('79 I think same as my 1st car
the best thing about an old rolla is it will complete a rally in stock condition something most new cars could never do, they are also far more reliable than most dattos

What's unreliable about a datto 1600/180b. I had one (a $300 special with two-tone house paint styling) and couldn't kill it with a stick. 100kph in 2nd gear, loves the dirt roads and pretty unbreakable.

Hay if you like these old rally cars and your in VIC you should try to get down to the Alpine rally this weekend 3rd DEC.
They have a lot of old rally car's including the reno Gordinis and a lot of ex ARC champs from years ago (including ED I think)
There is even a rumor about a stratos with a Ferrari engine being entered.
I can not make it but wish I could If you can I would recommend it
Details can be found at www.hra.org.au
