what is the going rate for a 1jzgte half cut, with gearbox?
I have got quoted 3500 for a 1/2cut with no gearbox
and 2750 for a bare motor.
Seems steep to me

Mate its worth giving SSS a call. They can do a better deal than that. Tell them you found out from this site. Don't know about freight costs but i know that for a motor and gearbox (auto) it will be worth your while. As for manuals... stand in line

Just toyota wrecking.
I might have access to a 2JZ-GE with ECU and 5 speed, real cheap.
Could grab that, whack it in... then get a 2jz turbo motor later on... at least i woul dhave the bell housing and 5 speed to go onto a 1jz....
168kw 3ltr would be ok in a hilux for a while...

Thats not such a stupid idea, getting all the teething problems sorted out that are associated with fitting a JZ engine with a 2JZGE and scoring yourself a bellhousing at the same time, sounds like a plan.
As for Just Toyota...I dont really like dealing with them. Every time I've rung them up about getting a part or something....they seem to ask a LOT for everything!

now to get really interesting,
I can get a 2JZ-GE and associated 5 Speed, ECU, all sensors and the entire wiring loom for 2000 bucks from a mate.
At half teh price of a 1JZ manual half cut it is pretty tempting.
Found out a hilux has about 760mm of room, JZ series motors are 750mm long......

if you're willing to wait around, you *can* get 1jz half cuts $2000 for auto, $2500 for manual .. those are the best prices I've seen tho... a place in qld does it, so freight to perth might cost a bit
if you can grab a 2jz for that price, I'd got it... the 2jz is the same length as the 1jz, so you'll have the same issues ... i.e. will need to istall custom fans, prolly move your radiator.. etc etc
