Back to the question! Yes you can get a speed warning device! With most of them you can set 2 speed alarms with trim pots and switch between them! But there are some available that are digital and you set the alarm on the fly!

Apart from your mother ,.. VDO make a speed alert .. It's about $80... You can get it from Baulkham Hills Spare parts. Which is a sponsor of ours.. Looks similar to the system used in the commodores..

how does that hook up? I would assume it would connect into the electronic speedo on newer cars but how about and old cable driven speedo of an RA23? Can you get some sort of sensor to go inline with the cable to give electronic output?

My Celica XX comes with one standard! It is setable in 5kph increments from I think 10-65kph, and it beeps annoyingly if you go over.
It also has a light on the dash that informs when you are doing over 100kph...the Japanese were so gimmicky in 1981 Razz

They come with a little module that connects in line with the speedo cable! I have one here I could take a photo of if you really need it!

I cant believe any of you guys would need this device !!
are you telling me you CANT tell what speed you are doing without looking at a speedo !!!
well if you cant and you continue to speed you need an advanced driving course and not a little gadjet to save your arse !!!
and i hope you get double demerit points for christmas
merry christmas to everyone else

the one in the crummie doors is a VDO type, you can get them from VDO and theyre exactly the same but youll need to get the sender setup off the crummiedoor for the unit to work, aftermarket would be easier to adapt.

I use cruise control to stop me from speeding. I'll be using it everywhere for the next couple of weeks. Should get some good economy too.

Geez i knew someone would burn me for that comment ,okay so the double points thing was mean, but c'mon id say everyone on this list should be able to tell what speed they are doing with their eyes closed !! i thought we were supposed to be car nuts that knew everying about our cars, and id say that includes getting a feeling of the speed of the car without having to use a speedo

ohh and Cool1...your and angry bugger arent ya Razz

yeah most people would be able to tell but on long trips where you are sitting on at least 100kmph the whole way or late at night when you are a bit tired, or maybe even if you are lucky enough for a nice lookin chick to flash you some goods you can loose concentration and might sneak over the limit, and if there is a compper there when you do, money and points will be deducted from your life and no one wants that. A simple little device that emits a beep when you exceed the speed limit might just come in handy on such occasions and save you some cash.

By the way, has anyone ever heard the saying "What's the colour of a 2 cent piece... copper...copper" hehehe
