Well... I'll be getting myself an AW11 soon, and was hoping to find someone reliable to tune it up a bit and maybe do some mods later on when I've saved up some more $$$... stuff like relocating the intercooler to the front, etc...
I also just want to know where to go just incase I screwed up something myself...

The fact you'd have roughly 5m of inlet tract is the first thing that comes to my mind...

ok, so maybe that's a bad idea....
(i still dont understand how an intercooler sitting on top of an engine can be a good thing... hot air rises, no?)
But it's still useful to know a good mech just in case things get out of hand... say, if i kill my gearbox or something...

throttle response would be interesting to say the least...
intercoolers sititng on engines don't work as wel las they could (interwarmer?) but where else do you plan to mount it? best alternative would be to setup a water/air setup, but loads of work for little gain. otherwise you could retrofit a sw20 gt type i suppose?
so you think you'll kill a e51 s/c gearbox do you? they are pretty strong you know!!

I donno... things seem to break in my hands... but the gearbox was just an example...
I just wanted to know a good guy to go to for tuning, servicing, and to fix stuff when I break it...

corvid,
good to hear. strange you couldn't find a cheap on in nsw though!! (then again ~$400 is still cheap - try pricing up a new one!!)
the e series box is used in the gt4 and the sw20 got as well - there are numerous examples of these cars running 400+ hp through them, and with some care they run fine (don't expect them to live if you do drop-backs!). the e series also runs an internal oil pump - you can easily hook it up to a trans cooler to help it cope with high hp. synthetic oil is a good idea too

Sweet... oh well i guess it was worth the extra effort to put that big puppy in
Ummmmmmm... as for the trans cooler idea..
There is a bent pipe on the outter of the box housing.. ive allways figured that thats what it was.. so if i unbolted then and through the cooler inline with it id be magic wouldnt i?
Also due to it having the lsd centre what oil should i use? id like to run synthetic.. But what brand/visc. should i be looking for?
Thanks again for your help.

corvid,
hopefully!!
yes that "U" tube is the pressure line from the pump (or is it the return? will have to look in the workshop manual now...)
so you just unbolt it and set up the cooler lines there.
we have used castrol syntrans. there is also a castrol syntrax, which was designed for all wheel drive transmissions. syntrax is cheaper. is not cheap (syntrans is about $24-27 /L), but it does seem to work quite well!
