MicMac,

Stock 2TG pistons are not forged.

First thing to look for is a marking from the manufacturer. I only have 2 loose sets of pistons here both are out of 2TGEU's On the sides of the piston they are marked with the head number (88261) you would need to take them out of the block to see that Sad

Other than that a picture may indeed help as mr_mcfarlane Suggested.

Thanks, will try to borrow a camera and take some pics tonight
I was told the engine was bored with forged pistons on purcahase But the bore seems to be standard, so im guessing the pistons may well be standard to

Micmac,

Unfortunatly alot of people Lie about what is inside there engines. I always assume any engine I buy to be standard until proven otherwise just so I'm not disapointed.

Have you measured the bore ?

Okay the diameter is 85mm the depth is 78mm Given that it is a 3T block, by my maths this would seem standard bore, is that correct? Could not get hold of a camera last night will try again tonight
Thanks

Micmac,

Mate keep a couple of things in mind until you know 100% for sure what your pistons are. Firstly an overbore of 20thou is very common in rebuilds. 20 thou is only half a mm so its hard to measure !

Secondly if you have a 3T block under your 2TG head they are probably not Stock 3T pistons. 3T pistons need to be flycut to allow room for the additional piston to valve clearance the twin cam head requires.

They might still be forged piston but things do look a little bit grim. Sad

How long ago did you buy the engine and from who ? (If you don't mind my asking)
