Alchemist wrote on Sun, 18 September 2005 22:12 | This is going to sound a little wierd, but I don't much feel like dropping my clutch and doing massive burnouts, and wasting away my poor tyres, I'm just there for the 1/4 mile.
Is there anyway to drive around the burnout zone so I don't get my rear tyres wet and do a burnout on the line while I am trying to launch?
|
yes there is but sometimes you cant drive around the water because it pools up and streams away right where you are trying to drive!
so sometimes its best to drive right through the middle where there is actually less water!

Well I'm all set to go, I've managed to borrow my Dad's motorbike helmet for the evening, he hasn't riden a motorbike in 20 years and it's the awful orange Shoei helmet from the 1970's But it's got ADR compliance so it should be fine.
I probably can't make it out there till 5:30, is that too late to get a run?

....bastards....
If you are planning on racing, i would try to arrive at WSID by 4.30-5.00pm to ensure you make the 200 car limit. 5.30pm is stretching it, but should be ok.
Justen - pm coming soon.
And to everyone who's coming:
We will meet at Blacktown Maccas (3rd Ave) at 4:00pm, leaving 4:15pm SHARP! If you miss us, head straight to WSID and catch up there.

Well that was a bit of fun wasn't it
Traction issues aside i think i did as well as the cheap shit Nankang street rubber would allow. Once i got my 60' time sorted the decent times came.
best was a 11.74@122mpg with a 1.96 60'. Next run was looking awesome with a 1.80 60' but i must of overheated the clutch on the launch as it locked me out of 2nd and i had to take a 2nd bite....still ran a 11.88....it was looking like a 11.4 - 11.5 so spewing a bit over that. Still, i wasn't expecting to get into the 11s on street tyres and a 2.9:1 diff so pretty stoked and keen to get back with some decent rubber on board.
Thanks to Karl for the offer of gear storage and good to see a decent sized support crew turn up to cheer on the toymod racers

Had a great night, makes me want find another celica and get busy.
Well done to all who ran. Everyone put up respectable times and I am sure everyone had fun. Now all we need to do is get all the toymods members who were watching to get the cars running and have a decent turnout. Yes thats you Rod/Josh/Jack/Karl(RA28)etc.
I got videos of everyones cars I think. They are rather large so I will leave a CD with someone to distribute. I will try and get it to Rod or Karl before I go. Unfortunately, while the camera does take a good quality video (640*480res), it struggles to focus in poor light conditions, so the ends of the runs get a little blurry.

Nice work Justen! I am sure the typo is meant to be mph unless the 1UZ is also planning to enter fuel efficiency competitions
I guess the times and mph have just confirmed what we already knew, that the GT8 is a damn rocket!
