donors??? Wed, 10 August 2005 03:34 Go to next message
Hi simple question for you guys that know what your doing was wondering how you can tell if another car is a good donor?

I mean like the Vin numbers have the same 4 digits both have MX73 and the engine numbers are similar.

Basically looking for the same car as mine so I can strip it of it's doors as I cant get to the other car to measure the doors.

In other words would I be able to get two doors from a car that is the same year, model, luckily colour(not that makes a difference) and same first 7digits of the vin number without worring about them not fitting properly

You could probably go further than that and say that if the chassis part of the model number... i.e. "X7" for an MX73, then the doors will fit.

Just note that a lot of cars imported from japan might not have side intrusion bars like the aus-delivered ones do. I know this is the case with AE86s, not sure if it applies to xX7xs etc.

Huh? If you want doors that fit an MX73, just grab them off another MX73. There's no need to look at VIN numbers etc. If there are any major structural changes Toyota would assign a different model code and it wouldn't be an MX73 any more.

thanks that answered my question perfectly. and norbie I didn't know it was an MX73 without looking at the Vin the manual says it's a GLX series and that is about as detailed into model numbers that it gets unless I looked in the wrong spot so using the VIN was the only way of figuring it out.

Exactly - I was just saying that a jap-delievred car with a similar model may not have side intrusion bars like an aus-market one does. And there's a fair chance that any xX7x chassis door will fit - just like any xA6x door from a Celica or Supra (MA60, MA61 GA61, RA65, RA60, RA63, SA63, SA60, TA60, TA61, TA63 etc etc etc) is interchangeable. But, just to complicate things, not between Carina's Wink

But 90% of GX71 doors won't fit on MX73's.

Most GX71's are pillarless.
