bolt on turbo kit for 18rg

Hey all,
in all the debate in my mind about turbo / supercharged for my 18rg 76 LT2000 ..... came across an article...about a turbo charged 72 celica gt with an 18rg in it:
http://www.toygarage.com/featured_car/featured_car _2.htm
anyone know what sort of turbo that would be to bolt straight in - I like the idea of a nasty big blow off valve...and an intercooler setup, but then I also like the whine supercharger pulleys make
decisions decisions......either way expect some pics of my new beast soon....
Peace....

hey mazda series 5 turbos and nissan t25s or t3s are ok options.
What is stopping you having an intercooler and blow off valve running a supercharger? intercoolers are necessary for any amount of boost over 4psi i believe.. even best to have one anyway. BOV is simply up to you, they are functional but pretty much if you have a stock wastegate or bov, are just for sound.
Remember any turbine or s/charger creates heat and you need a good cooling system.
Turbo is the way to go i reckon, but i too could have the option of supercharging my 18rgeu only because theres one lying around off a datto 1600, but i dont have enough money to rebuild for that sort of compression

oh and just a rule of thumb.. nothing can BOLT IN where there was not one before. you will need custom exhaust/turbo manifold made up for the turbo to bolt on to or if its a S/C then fit it to the a/c bracket or something and hook up a belt, then custom piping and intercooler work to connect to the inlet, then remap the ecu(if possible)& dizzy, and at the same time assess how much fuel is getting to your motor and if it will be any more thirsty with more kw(yes).. and it goes on, but good luck

Actually "bolt on" turbo kits do exist for the 18R-G, but they have been out of production for decades so your chances of finding one are pretty slim. It's not hard to have a custom manifold fabricated for your engine, and that way you can have any turbo you like. I have a Series V RX7 turbo and a custom manifold for my 18R-G, which apparently works rather well with moderate boost. I'll get around to installing it one of these days.

Hey all,
Thanks for the replies:
Faulksy --> what's your price (And how hard will it be to have that sc mounted as opposed to one from a 1ggze {was going to do the AC mount idea} --> was looking at an sc from one of these before the idea of turbo popped into my head )
Blackra28 --> my engine is all ready sorted built, and suitable decompressed to cope with a supercharger --> I intend to put in a front mount intercooler (no idea what one yet) and run around 5 - 6 psi --> should be able to run 10 safely but 'safely' vs logic and desire to die is another thing.
anywhoo....
best get to work since that's what I'm here for

btw --> all:
I know now just how hard my 18rg (in decompressed form) can go:
Had two drags last night....both rolling start
Took on a VH Commodore (6 cyl) and ate it for breakfast -- top speed of 120kph in a 60 zone est a 45 - 50 kph roll start
Second:
Pulsar SSS (around a 95 I think) beat on that one two once again around 120 - 130kph - est around a 60kph start
Then (for those adelaide peeps) on the expressway heading south -- thought mmmm lets see just how fast it can go....
wound the engine out to 5k rpm and was doing 160...WHOOT WHOOT...
she's slow of the line - but she can get it up and keep it up
WHOOT WHOOT.....
Happy man
Looking forward to a supercharger fer sure now!

hey 1jz how far do you have you 18R-G decompressed?
i have a 18R-GEU and it runs a stock compression of 8.3:1 and has no probs getting up to 200 kph in a RA40 i think that around 5500-5700 rpm.
gotta love em

Bah... i can easily do that in my 4spd 18R corona, top speed doesnt matter.
Well done of the other two tho... but in all honesty, they cant have been trying too hard.
A low compression 18RG with no blower/turbo isnt gonna take any V6 Commodore
But when you get one, its gonna be fun off the lights... your gonna be seeing some supprised/angry faces in the cars next to you

Sounds ok but i guess you'd wanna whip an old commonwhore.. SSS pulsar well done mate, they're an n/a SR20 ..
I have a mate up the road with a VH.. theyre a 202 straight 6 actually unless equipped with v8's, i dont think they had a v6 motor back then.
Im spending a fair bit of cash to get my celica a bit quicker with an 18Rgeu in fairly standard trim, compression iat 8.3:1 i think was it mentioned earlier in this thread..?? Yeah but im hoping to whoop the shit out of his VH slurrydore and others .. if not i'll be pissed. and yeah beating sss pulsars would be good, n/a sr20 silvias aswell and the like..
anyway oh and my 18R-c can sit on 160 at maybe just under 5Krpm ?? easily if down a slight slope hehe.. eg the freeway.. hoping the 18rgeu can hold out to that too and maybe more, when she frees up a little.
Peace
catchya

Celica_Ra40 -->
Perfectly honest I'm not sure how far decompressed it is --> I only bought the car 5 days ago (Thursday last week) and didn't ask the previous owner
He was hoping to run around 10psi from a 1ggze supercharger though so not sure....I only really want to run around 5 or so...
It's going in to be sussed and checked in the next couple of days... so I'll have to get back to you
blackRA28 --> As for whooping commonwhore's DAMN STRAIGHT I WANNA WHIP EM! Currently own a VP and would love to be able to eat that for breakfast in a ra23 that would just be the shiznit!
btw....all....thinking about losing the 18rg....(well when I've saved up enough...) and doing something a little silly.....eg...1jz or 2jz (Depends on how much I can save) but will see what happens!
either way should be a blast to drive
Looking forward to some angry second place drivers soon.

BlackRa28 --> it's a carby engine atm...but am considering changeover to EFI..since one of my friends made a comment about backfires and detonation that had me a lil worried....as for the ra28 with a 1j JEEZUS WHEEZUS that would make a nice car.... but then I'm a sucker for the 1jz (hence the name and the dream, 1jz ra65.... that's a work in progress --> soon as I find a nice ra65 for minimal costs ---> BIG BIG BIG Plans )
well if you're in the southern suburbs somewhere just keep an eye out for a metallic silver ra23 with gold / bronze stock wheels --> that'll be me somewhere about.....prolly looking for a drag or two
have a wonderful xmas all!

wow, you beat a V6 commodore, woe is me
my old 18R-U was doing that months ago, and the only mods i'd done to it were extractors/exhaust and an oil change

Yeah, why do people keep doing this? Hasn't 1JZRA65 nearly finished his 1JZ conversion or am I thinking of someone else?
