HELP-Tailshaft specialists in Sydney....? Thu, 11 August 2005 04:17 Go to next message
Hey guys,

Halfway through the manual conversion on the mz20 an ive hit a hurdle.

I got quoted $610 to have my tailshaft lenghthened and a new yoke welded on plus a new centre bearing....

Im hoping to bring that price down and hopefully still get a new centre bearing....

Does anyone know or recomend any one in sydney that specialises in machining and tailshafts etc???

Closer to the city is preffered...

Any help is appreciated

Regards,
Shane

Holy crap - what gearbox are you using?

I converted mine to manual using a w58 and didn't need to get anything lengthened.

Manual gearbox's are 70-80mm shorter than autos (both W5x and R154), so you need the front half to be that much longer.

It should only cost $300 MAX to get it lengthened.

Why are you changing the centre bearing?
Why are you getting a NEW yoke?

Yeah as CrUZsida said the manual box is shorter.

The centre bearing is thrashed apparently, he reckons its $120 worth so if i leave this out is becomes a slightly cheaper option. New yoke cause the auto is a 26 spline or something like that an w58 is 21 (dont quote me on those numbers)

Yes please gimme that number Smile Il give a call an see how much they reckon.

Shane

You should be able to pick up a tailshaft from a lowish km ANY RWD Toyota from about 1986 backwards. (to at least 1980).

Supra's, celica's, cressida's, soarer's.

They will all use the same yoke as you need, and most likely the same bearing.

You should be able to pick up the front half of a driveshaft froma wrecker, if not a private wreck, for about $30.

Then pay $200-$300 to get it lengthened.

The best place to go to is Sydney Driveshafts over at greenacre ... i got quoted $600 for a carbon fibre tailshaft ... so a normal shaft wont caost much at all

Got a number for them? If im gonna spend $600 i may aswell get carbon fibre Cool

Went to wreckers today an found an RA65 shaft that i was thinking of using just for the front section and maybe the centre bearing if it fits. Although the uni looked to be way too small, so im not sure if i should even bother with it as it will prob break 3 months down the track.

So i might keep on looking at modding my shaft with some decent sized uni's on it.

Anyways thanks for the help fella's

Shane

Sweet, thanks alot Smile

Ive kinda found a solution to the problem...gonna get a hiace shaft which is one piece an may be the perfect size and if not i i will get it cut down and use it as the front section of the shaft....its got some very decently sized uni's on it an best of all its very cheap...$40 Smile

And i will give those guys a call about a bearing as mine is quite rooted.

Thanks again

Regards,
Shane

I'd go with a Sydney drive line shaft

I am extemly happy with mine

You don't want to dogey a shaft up as to long a one will stuff the g/box.

Also it ain't the best the throw a tail shaft I know that from personal experince.

That was the reason I went to Sydney driveline service to get a bullet proof tail shaft. After the demise of my previous custom shaft
