1jzgte Water Pump Swap - Info for 1jzgte Owners.

This is just to let all the guys know that have the hydro fan on the 1jzgte and want to piss it off... the soarer 1jzgte water pump will bolt straight on with no hassles at all and that will get rid of all the hydro bizzo.
When Changing Pumps :
Everything has to come off... fan belt, crank pully, timing belt and then you will be able to get to all the bolts. Remember to undo the back water pipe and it will come straight out.
You will have to wiggle it up and down to get it out as the down pipe going into the top of the water pump is hard to get free when you really only have about 2-3cm's of movement up and down.
Do it all back up and bob's your uncle. No hassles at all for those who wanted to know if it is possible.

Ok I've been in discussion about water pumps etc. over the last few days with other 1Jz users and have been told that my water pump should be replaced at around 100,000 Kms (10000 ago)
If what your saying is to replace them with soarer parts I take it that your referring to those who have a Chaser engine? Does this mean that I don't have to worry about this as I already have a soarer pump?
I haven't noticed any leaks with my current pump but am a little worried after reading some of the threads and emails being sent around.
Can someone set me straight.
Apologies for my lack of knowledge.

If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it! As long as your cooling system is performing as expected and nothing is leaking, there's no reason to replace your water pump. When it starts to give trouble you'll know all about it, and that's the time to install a new one.
An exception to this philosophy is stuff that can cause serious damage and/or inconvenience if it fails suddenly - a classic example being the timing belt, which should be replaced at regular intervals even if it looks OK. A water pump doesn't really fall into that category, so leave it be.

thanks for that....
I know the whole timming belt deal so replaced my timing belt 2 weeks after buying the car....
Thats my normal philosophy as well. Actually mabye its more like:
'If it aint broke....spend money on making it go faster'

yeah don't change the damn thing if it isn't leaking!! Mine was leaking bad!
Supra and Chasers had Hydro fans... unless your using it you don't need it. Most people just loop oil to it to stop it from drying out and seazing up. With the soarer pump,, now i don't need that extra crap in my engine bay.

I'm a bit confuse.......
so what u mean is the 1jz supra has hydro fan, but not the soarer. so their are not 100% the same, right?
b/c my friend's supra has fxxk up its water pump, toyota quoted about $1000 for a new replacement unit. can u tell me if the soarer water pump can be installed onto supra or not? My friend worries so much about his car.......

i talked with castle hill toyota in sydney... i think the hydro fan is harder to get but they can get one from japan. Usually people rebuild them though and you can buy all the parts from Castle hill Toyota.. although some have to be ordered from japan.
PS: For what it is worth, soarer water pump $125 and a couple of thermo's would prob be cheaper than repairing the hydro fan. Although ive been told they do work really well.

When i went to toyota to buy a non hydro pump I found that you need the soarer pulley as well as the water pump was made to take a engine driven clutch fan (like the 7M). The jza70 one only has one nut holding pulley to the pump.
Did you get a pulley as well? or how did you get around this problem?
Cheers

The guy at Natrad told me that the new Camry's use a hydro pump on the radiator...Anyone confirm or deny this??? It would make replacements easier (read easier, not cheaper) to get....

Yes, my Dad's previous-generation Vienta had a hydraulic fan. I'd be surprised if it was interchangeable with parts from a JZ engine though.

I am pissing off that hydro fan on 1jz (jzx90) in favour of 2 14" Davies Craig thermos. I am using the fan fluid resivior for my power steering. Power steering pump is on opposite side in jzx90 caser. I plan to leave the hydro pump in place for now, but have it diconnected. Can I just plug up the holes or should I run oil through it? If I should run oil, can I just connect the inlet to the outlet via a short tube a put a small amount of fluid in it???
Will any of this effect my water pump?????

Yes you can disconnect the pump, and yes you should loop some hose from the inlet to the outlet to keep fluid moving through the system, otherwise the pump may seize on you.

i'd be putting in a resevoir mate for that loops... sure you can just pipe it from in to out, but how do you make sure u have enough in there. I have one you can have for $10, from an sr20, just bolt that in and save yourself the hassles if it drys out.

Guys,
Just to let you know, the hydro pump from toyota (castle hill toyota)for the jza70, jzx81 and jzx90 retails for $1400. You can almost get a whole 1JZ for that much. I will be doing the non hydro pump conversion from the soarer. Anyone know of someone with a blown Soarer motor?????
