ANDYS RA23 BUILD UP

hey my name is andy and im 18 from brisbane, this is my first car and has been fully rebuilt. My dad and i have rebuilt the celica over the last 14 months or so and has been challanging and fun. the car used to be the 18RC auto but we swapped it over to a 5 speed manual. The 18RC was given a little attention by adding a mild camshaft thanks to camshaft engineering, and genie extractors with a fully cleaned cylinder head with new valve seats to run it on unleaded.
The shell is now painted in ford citric acid and sits 2 inches lower on some king springs aswell. THe interior has been done with new seats and headlining and repainted dash. and fitted with a panasonic head unit, 6 inch speakers and 6X9's on a new custom back parcel shelf. future plans are to just get it running on the road and settled down and then fit a 1ggte in the future.
anybody with celicas and who would like to add me on msn feel free punkfan_87@hotmail.com
hope you enjoy the pictures i will put more up as i go.

in your regards to the blue exhaust yeah i know its abit silly but for some reason the genie extractors came blue. but alot of the colour has baked off now so its more a dull blue. here are some more pics of the car. we got a new rear vision mirror and got the back parcel shelf done and you can see how much better the car looks with the new headlining it really makes it look great, the blue engine bay is one of my friends ra28. it has the 1ggte twin turbo i want to fit into the ra23 later on.

here are some more pics of me and my mate johno playing around with the celica in the lawn, all the interior is finished now, and all that remains is some areas of touch up paint and tyres and exhaust.. this week the sports exhaust goes on and the new tyres go on. so ill put some more pics up when that happens then its just got to go through road worthy and rego.

how much of a coincedence is that...
my mate bought an RA23 shell he's putting a 1JZ into at the moment and it was painted that exact same colour. he's painting his blue though so there's no need to worry
it'll go hard with the 1G in there!

ok its been awhile since ive posted anything and alot has happend. we went to performance pipes over at acacia ridge to get our sports exhaust done, it is a 2 inch all the way through with a resinator and sports muffler with a 2 inch dump pipe. from there we took the car over to major services for a wheel alignment and road worthy which it passed WOOHHOOO ... and now my old man wasnt really happy with the carby so that is being fixed as we speak. It was bein a bitch running far to rich and had a flat spot just above 1000 rpm so now its in getting a full rebuild. the car is very soon to be registed and on the road so look out for it... ill post some more pictures up soon. keep up the feedback on the car its much appriciated

holy crap had a few issues come up of late but nothin that we didnt fix.. firstly the seal from the filler pipe to the tank well when we put that seal back in it wasnt fully sealing it so fuel leaked out and vented into the cabin and it stunk so bad... so we fixed that.. but dad put some silicon around all the seals but slowly over time the petrol attacked it and it turned top this sticky slimy gpp[ that blocked up all my fuel lines.. THANK GOD FOR FUEL FILTERS!!! anyway had a great afternoon cleaning all that crap out but now she is back to normal... well yeah havnt looked yet but today my cel is in fast fours today in small haulers cand wait to get it...
cheers

I agree, looks mad arse!!
your wheels look a little similar to mine.. do you know the brand??
Tell me, how much extra umff did you get from all the tinkering to the old rc, i have a 28 with a stock reconed rc, extractors and a few idle probs but i was wondering if it may be worth doing what youve done.. ie was the cost worth the benefit..
or even sell me all the stuff if you ever go for the 1g option..
anyway just a friendly hello

in response to your questions.. yeah thw work done to the 18RC does give it a fair bit more pep than a stock 18RC.. but yeah it depends what you wanna do if you think its worth doing. I personally wouldnt do anymore to mine im gonna go to the 1ggte. And yeah to the other question the car has roughly taken 17 months to finish or so and including rego and insurance was approx $6000... ITS IN FAST FOURS ATM in the small haulers section and i WON over a GTR hahahahaha...

hey.... well it may seem stupid but yeah within the next six months we will most likely have the 1ggte supra half cut ready to try and fit hehe. we now have new bucket seats on order so when we get them im willing to let the other ones go for $50 if anyone wants em.. also when we get the 1ggte i will be looking to sell my engine package now which would include
18RC with genie extractors made for the 18rc, mild camshaft,2 inch sports exhaust all the way from the extractor and another spare 18RC block for about $500-600 which i think is pretty fair seeing its all ready to go in a ra23... if anyone is intersted just say so on here and yeh just so i get an idea of how much interst i can get in it
cheers andy...

i know that the 2jz is quite conciderablly longer than a 1ggte or other similar engine.. so you will most likely have a few inssues fitting it in there especially against the fire wall.. i think you need approx 2 inches cut out of the fire wall for the 2J... also because it is 3L your gonna need to get a fair bit of engineering aproval seeing the ra23 was made for a 2L.. thats the greatest thing about the 1ggte. its still six cylinder twin turbo but only 2L..
well if your still gonna go with the 2J good luck is all i can say it would be a great ride if you get it all done.. keep us posted on ya progress..
cheers andy

Hey Andy,
Car looks awesome, congrats on a job well done! Both you and your dad should rightly feel very proud of your efforts.
If you get the chance, make yourself known on the forums at www.ozcelica.com - would be great to have a nice 1st gen like this one join the ranks there, and it would be awesome to have you come to one of our QLD cruises one day!
By the sounds of it your car is well and truly on the road by now, enjoy every minute of driving it!

Well there is a dedicated 1st gen section on the boards, I'm sure there would be an RA23 owner in there or two. On our most recent cruise (Nov 5, check the QLD section) we had a TA22 join us which was cool, normally the oldest Celicas to come to these meets are 4th gens (like mine!).
ATM there is supposed to be a cruise happening this coming weekend, final details haven't been posted up yet though. Might be too short notice but would be awesome if you could come along, it's planned to be a drive through the Gold Coast hinterland.
Cheers,
Matt
