Hey everybody. as you can see i'm a newby to this forums game. i live in Tassie and I'm looking for a AE86 Trueno(genuine). I have a budget of about 3-4000 bucks and the conditon of the car doesn't worry me as I want to fix it up. I was hoping that someone might know of one thats for sale somewhere. Qld, WA and SA out of the question cos they are too far away.
Please help!

Best of luck in finding your 86. If you got a genuine one for that price i would be suprised, the amount that is asked these days for a 20+ old car is quite insanse, but yeah i think your price range is a bit low for anything in good condition
Not meaning any offence

yeah none taken Craig. I've been looking for the last few weeks and can't find any and if I did, it was out of my price range. I saw a few on the forums and they look pretty sick but I want to get one and start from scratch. All I need is a rough one to work on. If you know or hear of any, gimme a hoi cos I'm desperate.
Thanks,
sam

Unfortionatly ther'll be no mountain_drifting for you mate with that sort of cash
Maccas dead right dude, there aint no way you going to get a Trueno for that or even a levin for that matter. Hell i sold my auspec POS carby 4ac-rap 86 the other day for more than that before the paper even came out!
Best bet is to find a 4age or 20v auspec for around the 6-7k mark. Otherwise s12 gazelles are heaps of fun. (raises the question that their better than 86s in stock form), if you really want a toyota with a 4age why not get a ae82 twin cam (sure there FWD but still a bit of fun), i just picked one up and its sooo much quicker than the 86 was.
Anyway good luck finding a toyota you like dude

There should be a write up in the tech section on how to write a WTB AE86 ad.

Mind you none of which were advertised either all word of mouth

its funny this whole thing with looking for 86s for under 4000 bucks. should form a syndicate and bring em into the country for guys and girls like us that want a 86 for a bit of fun:P i found this on another post (thanks tin tin) it reads:
"AE86 sprinter good rolling shell. willing to spend up to $4000 for a good straight shell that only needs a motor and minor work to get roadworthy. if it has motor than I don't mind just want a good straight car for $4000."
it seems to be, yes, a textbook thread. i own a 1972 BMW 2002 (which is for sale if anyone wants it check the for sale section) i got sick of it because of parts being scarce where i live, fuel prices, and so decided to sell it.

well...im on to my 3rd sprinter in 5years
1. was from my mate's mechanics, friend! an unfinished project 2K for a car with no engine and new paint, plus 1K for full 4AGE 16v conversion parts.
2. Mine was from a user on these forums, his old daily driver, he has a modded sprinter, it was 2K mind you ive spent 1K in 1week on it! lol but thats modifications
3. Another friend picked one up when someone he knew(older person) was trading it in, a steal at only 1K-1.5K and it was a neat car!
Just gotta keep you eyes and ears open! i had my eye out for a good one for the past 3months, you need to be patient, i wasnt in a rush to get one as my second car, be it a project/fun car.

exactly. i worked on my beemer for a good couple of months just bits here and there and its up to a good condition now. Still needs work but doesn't any car? my dad was always going on about needing to work on the car to understand it and appreciate it. and yeah show cond. cars are way out of price range. in reply to a levin, i would consider one for a couple of grand it its straight. not worried about not having an engine either.

as "tin tin" said and i quote,
"AE86 sprinter good rolling shell. willing to spend up to $4000 for a good straight shell that only needs a motor and minor work to get roadworthy. if it has motor than I don't mind just want a good straight car for $4000."
thats exactly what i'm looking for.
