Organising tools Sat, 13 August 2005 04:20 Go to next message
Hey

Im getting a problem as i have more and more specialist tools for worken with cars so im having a hard time finding places to put them and subsequently loosing them

I was wondering how everyone keeps their tools organised? I am good at loosing tools so im looking for ways of organising them so im not prone to loosing them (ie: i actually HAVE a place to put them back to when im finished)

Right now i have a tool box, everything gets thrown in there, what doesnt fit in there goes in 2 biscuit tins hahaha. So i have a real hard time finding shit

Im thinking of getting one of them wheely 6 drawer things that stand aboot 1mtr high, with the 6 drawer smaller addon box on top.

And idea/photos of peoples tool organising jobs?

Phill

Those help if you have a place to park it. You might find it better than the system you have now... but again it hinges on your ability to organize the stuff into the drawers. Out of sight for some doesn't help, though it might serve to impress those you live with when you hide your clutter in a bright red box. If one is prone to just throwing it in 'fifo', with no organization then it's as bad as a portable tool-box. Hanging tools on a wall can work if you're able.

My biggest challenge is trying to 'store' parts while the car is disassembled... hoods, doors, bumpers... rubbers, glass, seats... and don't even get me started about all the nuts and bolts...

It's one thing to hang tools, leave tools on a series of shelves or in a box, or any combination of any of it... but when the car parts, dirty rags, empty beer cans, and your tools start cluttering up the same space...

My girlfriend keeps offering to clean up the garage... I say, "Don't worry, I'll take care of it..." while I silently finish my sentence with "eventually".

I have that covered, i bag and label every bolt where it comes from and keep them in boxes, the bigger stuff i have plenty of storage space as im on a farm, its organising of tools thats my biggest problem

I might have to look into hanging tools
